GENERALLY SPEAKING, GHOSTS ARE SPIRITS WHO HAVE NOT YET CROSSED OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE. SPIRITS HAVE CROSSED OVER AND COME BACK TO VISIT. GHOSTS GENERALLY BRING WITH THEM NEGATIVE FEELINGS SUCH AS SADNESS, FEAR, ANGER, DEPRESSION, ETC. SPIRITS WHO HAVE CROSSED OVER AND COME BACK TO VISIT DON'T USUALLY BRING FEELINGS LIKE THAT. THEY GENERALLY RETURN TO GIVE YOU COMFORT AND LOVE.

WE HAVE MANY OTHER PHOTOS THAT ARE NOT AS ENHANCED AS THAT ONE. YOU CAN SEE HOW MANY SPIRITS ARE IN THAT TREE. WE ARE ASSUMING THOSE ARE AMERICAN INDIAN SPIRITS WHO WERE PROBABLY MASSACRED A COUPLE OF CENTURIES AGO. WE ARE TOLD THAT INDIAN SPIRITS LIKE TO HANG OUT IN PINE TREES AND THATS WHERE THAT PHOTO WAS TAKEN.

A careful look at the photo shows an orb over almost every person standing there.
Size of the orbs does not mean any sign of hierarchy or strength. Some smaller orbs have been known to gather together
and become a larger orb or even a cloud of ectoplasm.

New Scientist's field guide to spotting ghostly apparitions in your photos – and whence they may have arisen

ARE the souls of the departed becoming fidgety in the great beyond? "I certainly get more ghostly photos sent to me now compared with 10 years ago," says Caroline Watt of the Koestler Parapsychology Unit at the University of Edinburgh in the UK. Phil Hayes, an investigator at Paranormal Research UK, agrees. Last year, he reported record numbers of spooky images reaching his inbox. So what's going on?

A century ago, spirit photography was all the rage, tantalising the public imagination with what purported to be hard evidence of wispy apparitions. However, its resurgence may have less to do with the paranormal than with the increasing use of social media and camera phones.

Serious ghost hunters might be expected to welcome such technology. Yet, according to Dave Wood from the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena, low-cost camera phones are making the business of spirit photography even more fraught.

Many mass-produced phones don't use high-quality lens systems and this can lead to optical artefacts that look "spooky" to the untrained eye.

Photographers are also shooting more images, raising the likelihood that one or two will feature something extraordinary. "Take a few hundred snaps in a dusty old building at night and you are sure to capture a few odd photos," says Wood.

So what exactly are modern ghost hunters catching on camera? Are the images truly mysterious or are technological slip-ups and wishful thinking to blame? Let New Scientist be your spirit guide...

There is one phenomenon the ghost-hunters report that may be of use, what they call "battery drain." They often observe voltage drops in their batteries in areas where paranormal phenomena are occurring. These reports are more reliable than most because the ghost-hunters don't like this as it shuts their equipment down right when things are getting exciting. It's highly annoying to them.

"I'm trying to get evidence for ghosts---but I can't get it!"

"Why?"

"My batteries keep draining!"

*long sigh* Trained observers these guys are NOT.

Scientists would do well to mount a much more serious, professional investigation of this particular phenomenon, I strongly suspect.

Well, the article I linked to does contain the obligatory disclaimer at the end:

"Astral planes and parallel dimensions will probably remain the stuff of pure fancy, however, and maybe scientists are right to remain skeptical. Scrooge, of course, takes the words right out of their mouths. 'It's humbug still,' he said. "I won't believe it.'"
