THE LIE ABOUT 'THE SECRET'

by Dee Finney

The Master Teacher said:

KJV: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.- Matthew 6:33

Strive for the inner kingdom of God where faith, hope, and love prevail and the outer things we tend to fret about, our physical and material concerns, will be provided as we need them—like God provides for the birds of the air and the lilies of the field

KJV: And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Matthew 17:20

There is more than one way to use tools

Horse plough

Techniques for harvesting crops had
remained virtually unchanged for hundreds
of years until the Victorian age.

Ploughing
the old way

Farmer using a scythe to harvest hay

Battle Axe

The scythe of 'death'

Positive co-creation is a spiritual tool used for the good of everyone to have what they 'need'.

A tool such as this, meant to help everyone achieve what they 'need' can also be used to get what you 'want' to your overall detriment.

Things (stuff) does not give you joy, happiness, or spiritual peace and harmony. No matter how much you 'have', it does not satisfy the soul.

Here is the true problem with the Book  "The Secret"

The Secret takes a different approach from What the Bleep? and Down the
Rabbit Hole
, with its emphasis on the material impact of the
law of attraction
in our lives, as opposed to the
spiritual and healing implications. The film has been
criticized by some for ignoring the
spiritual implications of the law of attraction

in favour of a materialistic approach -

Although that’s not necessarily a bad thing, since it makes the ideas in the film both more succinct and more
intriguing to those who may not have explored this kind of concept before. It’s a great introduction to the
law of attraction for those who are new to self-affirmation and the idea that our thoughts create our lives.
People more experienced with these ideas may find The Secret doesn’t have as much of intellectual value
to offer; though it’s equally good as a refresher and a reminder of our infinite potential.

Teachers of the Law of Attraction

The film "The Secret" identifies specific historical figures and contemporary individuals as purported teachers of the "Law of Attraction."

Current Secret Teachers

The film interviews "Secret teachers" (professionals and authors) in the fields of quantum physics, psychology , metaphysics, theology, philosophy, finance, feng shui, medicine, and personal development, with some of these individuals, at their websites, promoting the film and their connection to it. A few of these individuals do not speak of this "Law of Attraction" in their interviews, and evidence that these individuals are teachers of the "law" or agree with it is not provided in the film or at the film's website.

The Secret teachers interviewed in the film, and then later featured on prominent american TV shows, are: John Assaraf, Rev. Michael Beckwith, John Demartini, Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield, James Arthur Ray, Joe Vitale, and Lisa Nichols. Others interviewed in the film include: Lee Brower, Marie Diamond, Mike Dooley, Bob Doyle, Hale Dwoskin, Cathy Goodman, Morris E. Goodman, John Gray, John Hagelin, Bill Harris, Esther Hicks, Ben Johnson, Loral Langemeier, David Schirmer, Marci Shimoff, Denis Waitley, Neale Donald Walsch, and Fred Alan Wolf.

Past Secret Teachers

The film also includes quotes by historical figures with Rhonda Byrne, the producer, stating in a voice-over in the film, "I can't believe all the people who knew this; they were the greatest people in history", claiming they are "past secret teachers". The people mentioned include Aristotle, W. Clement Stone, Plato, Isaac Newton, Martin Luther King, Carl Jung, Victor Hugo, Henry Ford, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Robert Collier, Winston Churchill, Andrew Carnegie, Joseph Campbell, Alexander Graham Bell, Ludvig Van Beethoven, Charles Fillmore, Wallace D. Wattles, Thomas Troward, and Charles F. Haanel. Although the book and the movie include quotes from these individuals that are not inconsistent with the principles set forth in The Secret, neither the book nor the movie offers conclusive evidence that these individuals were aware of all of those principles, nor that they agreed with them or applied them to their lives.

From wickipedia.com

In the above paragraphs, many of these teachers of the "secret" apply positive and spiritual guides to using this tool.  To leave out the spiritual guides leads one to disharmony, greed, and an insiduous downward spiritual to death of the soul.

The Rosicrucians tell us what the secret is

The secret is knowledge. Not knowledge in the sense of acquiring information but an inner knowledge of your own potential to achieve wisdom, strength, compassion, and peace.

Rosicrucians call this Mastery of Life. It embraces all aspects of who you are and all you can be - physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. It is a relationship and understanding of the divine laws of the universe. The Mastery of Life is not difficult to grasp, but the secret of the Rosicrucian tradition has been protected and preserved for thousands of years, shown only to those who have proven a true desire to know.
The Rosicrucian teachings are not the thoughts of a single leader or group, and is not a religion or dogma. In fact we incorporate many philosophies. We believe education and understanding of all cultures and beliefs are a key to tolerance. Our philosophies have gained the attention of some of the greatest minds through the ages. Our tradition is based on Rosicrucian teachings that reach back to the mystery schools of ancient Egypt and Europe. Yet they are not frozen. They have evolved and are always evolving.

A review of the DVD in comparing it to "What the Bleep" says:

The Secret has a lot of overlap with the book Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks, which I just read last week.  In fact, it’s one of the most amazing books I’ve ever read, and it’s deservedly among the top 100 books on Amazon right now.  Ask and It Is Given is a channeled book, similar to Barbara Marciniak’s Bringers of the Dawn in some ways, but Ask and It Is Given is much more down-to-earth and practical.  In order to write it, Esther channeled a group of non-physical beings collectively referred to as Abraham.  I saw Esther/Abraham speak in person earlier this month at the I Can Do It! seminar, and I was completely dazzled.  I think Abraham is spot on, and I’ve been doing a lot to apply these ideas more fully in my own life.  I’ve already reported some positive preliminary results.

Speakers in the movie included Jack Canfield, Joe Vitale, Fred Alan Wolf (also in What the Bleep), John Demartini, and Denis Waitley.  Jack Canfield’s stories were my favorites because he comes across as very genuine, and his results with the Law of Attraction are truly remarkable.

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION:

This web page came from a dream in 1999:

8-8-99 - VISION - This was like a lucid dream. I knew I had experienced this before in dreams, and I was supposed to teach this to other people. I saw this 3 or 4 times both times. I also knew this was Jewish.

This was a set of 16 boxes . . . 4 across and  4 high. I saw them in a concrete/stone color, and in black and white. The sizes of the boxes were all the same when complete . . . rectangular, however the 4th one was adjustable and in 2 parts. One part of the 4th section was very small when presented to us and it was up to each individual how far over within the rectangular to expand it. I had pulled it all the way over to the other side myself. That was the best.  However, each individual had to make that choice for himself and that what I was to teach them.

The Law of Attraction. This is the basic law of all manifestation, the Love Aspect, and it governs the Soul aspect. One of the Three Major Laws, and it has 11 subsidiary laws. Fundamentally, this law describes the compelling force of attraction that holds our solar system to the Sirian. It holds our planets revolving around our central unit, the sun. It holds the lesser systems of atomic and molecular matter circulating around a center in the planet, and that of the subtle bodies co-ordinated around their microcosmic center. It is the primary law of man. The law of synthesis is beginning to be felt.

The Law of Attraction -- You attract to yourself that which you put the energy of your thoughts into. If you desire something, you can attract it to you by positively anticipating its arrival into your life. Alternately, you can attract that which you do not want into your life by giving negative energy to your thoughts of receiving it.

The Secret was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show broadcast across the United States on Thursday February 8th, 2007. That special show was dedicated entirely to The Secret.

[Editors note: Knowing how Oprah thinks and dedicates her life to helping others, one has to wonder if she read 'The Secret' book all the way to the end.]

Rhonda says she stumbled on what she calls The Secret at the end of 2004. At the time, everything in Rhonda's life had fallen apart—physically, emotionally and financially—and she was in "total despair." Then her father died suddenly, and she was worried about her grief-stricken mother. "I wept and wept and wept, and I didn't want my daughter to see me sobbing," Rhonda says.

That's when Rhonda's daughter gave her a copy of The Science of Getting Rich, a book written in 1910 by Wallace D. Wattles. "Something inside of me had me turn the pages one by one, and I can still remember my tears hitting the pages as I was reading it," Rhonda says. "It gave me a glimpse of The Secret. It was like a flame inside of my heart. And with every day since, it's just become a raging fire of wanting to share all of this with the world."

A REVIEW FROM A READER/VIEWER OF THE FILM

'The Secret' - Spiritual Cinema?
By Julian Walker
1-25-7

The Introduction

OK. So, I finally got around to watching the whole of this movie that has such buzz in the spiritual community. Yoga teachers are talking about it. My friend is at a massage school where the teacher's are suggesting that the class watch it together. Another friend is in a graduate course for Somatic Psychology where the professors think it is an important piece of spiritual cinema.

I held out for a while, but finally I thought I'd go and see what all the fuss was about.

Why have I held out you might ask? Two reasons. The first has just three words: What The Bleep.

Perhaps you've heard of it? It's that popular spiritual movie funded by the female cult leader who claims to channel a 3,500 year old warrior king from Lemuria (little old red flag for ya there..) and produced by her (his?) students. This film takes bad interpretations of quantum physics, puts them alongside junk science claims of water and it's ability to retain the "energy of thoughts" and then drives towards all sorts of misguided spiritual and psychological conclusions that leave it's audience more confused and ignorant about spirituality, science and the relationship between the two than when they first sat down.presumably scratching their heads and saying "what the bleep?"

My second reason, you innocently ask?

Well, that's a little more complicated and has to do with my having been around the spiritual community my entire adult life and being perennially surprised, amused and infuriated with what people call "spiritual" and with the naivete, superficiality and gullibility of most "spiritual" people, as well as the basically banal nature of the material that gets recycled and marketed to it's willing consumers year after year.

'The Secret' takes the cake though.

Seriously.

Let's begin at the beginning:

The Drama

The movie starts with a dramatization. A sexy/disheveled aging blonde Australian lady is clearly having a rough time - her father has died, her relationships are a mess, she has worked herself to exhaustion. Then she opens her suitcase and sees a book. A post-it note on the cover says "Mom, this will help. xxox"

Whatever could it be?

It turns out (the montage tells us) that she is holding in her hands a glimpse of the ancient secret that has been passed down through secret societies along the ages, that people have persecuted and killed for, the knowledge that the power elite have used to keep the masses oppressed and that was known by everyone from Emerson to Shakespeare to Plato to Lincoln to Hugo to Newton to Beethoven! No hint as to how her daughter or son happened to slide this precious information into her suitcase

In her mind's eye we see Romans and Egyptians, Templar Knights, priests, scheming white cigar-smoking men in boardrooms, all passing the secret document back and forth, chasing it, hiding it - presumably until one of them passed it off on the troubled Australian lady's child?

Finally, in a breathless climactic moment, she is lying on her bed, head flung back, - a tight shot of her face, eyes closed, lips glossy as she earnestly and not a little seductively asks, "Why doesn't anyone know this?"

After another exhausting rapid research project, our short-lived Australian heroine has found those among us who know the secret today and leaves us now in their able hands.

Pretty exciting, huh?

What could the ancient secret knowledge be? So mysterious. So powerful.  Who are these modern teachers of the ancient mystery, the wise ones who are the contemporary bearers of the secret knowledge?

The Masters of 'The Secret'

The set combines beautiful backdrops with state-of-the-art computer graphics, and each speaker has their name in both typeset font and signature form at the bottom of the screen, along with a title that, we assume, qualifies them to be speaking. Their titles range from "philosopher" to "author" to "quantum physicist" to "writer" to "visionary" to "entrepreneur" to my personal favorite - "feng shui consultant."

Only one of the "writer/authors" is well known and has his book "Chicken Soup for the Soul" included in the computer graphic backdrop behind him. One can only assume that none of the others actually have published anything - nonetheless they are writers or authors who are in on "The Secret."

One of the speakers with the title "philosopher" appears by the letters after his name to be a chiropractor with a degree in science. OK

But while their titles and qualifications may vary, on one thing they are all resolutely in agreement, and this is the ancient secret, shrouded in mystery, repressed, hidden, revered by the best minds of history, finally available and delivered by this coalition of the brilliant and the brave. Are you ready?

The Secret

'Your thoughts determine your experience.' Shocking, isn't it?

That's right, you create your own reality. I know, I know it's complicated and deep, but we have decoded the golden thread of all the secret ancient wisdom traditions and the knowledge that made Emerson, Shakespeare, Newton et al such great men, and this is it!

The movie goes on to suggest, through well-made video dramatizations and repetitive rhetoric that "the Law of Attraction" is at work all the time responding to your thoughts and your feelings, serving up from the universe whatever you are putting out there. For example:

That parking ticket, those bills and piling up debt, your cancer, gay people who are harassed by homophobes, lonely folks who can't get a date and so on all of these are without exception manifestations of bad thoughts.

If you are focusing on not wanting to be late as you drive to work - guess what, you will be!

If you think about your bike being stolen and are extra careful to lock it up tight - it'll be stolen. But if you visualize that rock-star parking in front of the store you need to go to - it will be there!

If you focus on how stressed out you are about your credit card bills - guess what, you'll only create more debt!

If you spend time thinking about your cancer it will be more likely to kill you and even better, if you just focus on good things, watch funny movies and feel good after your diagnosis, it could take just three months to completely destroy the tumor - hey it did for this lady

then there's the little boy dying of a rare form of hepatitis. Full recovery because his family ordered up some extra special "gratitude rocks" from one of our "writers"

What's more all of this has been proven by science.

Cool, huh?  Not really.

The Problems

The film uses authoritative names, meaningless titles/qualifications, very badly constructed arguments, category errors, logical fallacies, scientific seeming images that then never go anywhere to strengthen it's points, and examples/case histories that are anecdotal at best.

The matter-of-fact "scientific proof" is alluded to by various graphics, impressive looking images of experimental scenarios, and vague verbal references, but never really appears.

What you may ask could be wrong with a hopeful, inspiring film that empowers people to use their minds?

Well how about the little boy who focuses hard enough on the bicycle so that he gets it? Or the young woman who gazes with just the right combination of longing and belief through the jewelry store window until a man magically appears to give it to her? How about that woman who cured her breast cancer by laughing? Or the little boy in South Africa who magically recovered from near fatal rare hepatitis because his father had gratitude rocks from California delivered to the door? How about Jack Canfield implying that he made a million dollars on his first book because he used the Law of Attraction i.e. he thought about it a lot? How about the assertion that by protesting, say, the war in Iraq, you only perpetuate it by giving it your focus?

We see a "case history" of a young gay man who is depressed, picked on, constantly humiliated by homophobic co-workers and street thugs. No more once he applies the secret. Done.

In fact the audience at a comedy club cheers his proclamation of being "such an incredibly gay man" Nice! He is happy and everyone magically either accepts and supports his homosexuality or, - get this - transfers out of his office - so strong is his intention!

You see the makers of The Secret want us to believe that if your mental focus is strong enough and the intentional "joy" in your being is brimming over enough, everything will happen as you want it too. That's the highest spiritual truth and the secret to life.

We see scenes from a brutally dysfunctional relationship. Shoving, yelling, faces contorted in anger and hurt. The solution? Write down what you appreciate about your abusive partner and watch them transform before your eyes to match the energy you are magnetizing them with!

They assure us that the reason a tiny percentage of the world's population has so much of the wealth is because they know this secret.

Never mind social conditions. Never mind racism, homophobia, colonialism, world history, psychology, trauma, and real-world economics. Everyone, absolutely everyone could be wealthy, happy and in love if they just knew how to use the Law of Attraction. Um, what does that mean for people who are not happy, wealthy or in the perfect relationship? Well, for lesson number two - see lesson number one. You're just not doing it right, silly.

Of course we never hear about the implied (and clearly flimsy) connection to the list of historical luminaries. You should have seen Shakespeare park that horse exactly where he wanted to on opening night. Beethoven - died in the black. Deaf, but solvent - right? Newton - never got sick.

Friends, this is not a recipe for anything but a frontal lobotomy. This is not high spiritual truth passed down through the ages, it's narcissistic delusion, bordering on the psychotic, plugged into the akashic records by a tinfoil hat.

It is a complete abdication of depth in favor of a supremely superficial analysis of life.

It is a marvelous example of everything wrong with the new age movement and is so insulting of the true nature of suffering, so ignorant of the realities of privilege and oppression, so authoritative in it's endorsement magical thinking and judgment of those who are not doing it right as to set any nascent spiritual development and self-awareness back a good 5 to 10 years.

So what is the real secret?

An Intelligent Path

Well there are really three broad areas that need attention, and this movie beautifully illustrates why:

1) Critical Thinking

Gotta have it. Without it spirituality is filled with the unicorns of childhood fantasy and the poison kool-aid of manipulation and dishonesty. In order to have critical thinking one needs healthy rational development. Educating the mind by studying actual philosophy, psychology, literature and art that grapples with the universal spiritual themes that great minds have been expressing since at least the Greeks.

A healthy dose of critical thinking will cut through the kind of nonsense these kinds of popular spiritual vehicles are selling. It will also allow one to side step the very real suffering and delusion that comes from buying into very, very poor interpretations of spiritual reality like these.

Rest assured, if The Secret and What The Bleep sound like deep truth to you, there is either a complete lack of critical thinking, or you have become convinced of the fallacious spiritual argument which says that critical thinking is the enemy of spirituality. Not so. Critical thinking is the enemy of false spirituality. It is the trusted ally of authentic adult spirituality. Use it!

2) Your Shadow is your Friend

Contrary to superficial and fragmenting prescriptions like those offered by What the Bleep and The Secret, the instruction here is to actually work with your shadow material and learn from it.

Your so called "negative emotions" have value and meaning. They are communications from your psyche. Be curious about them. Compassionate. Follow a path of inquiry into what lies beneath the surface of your reactions, fears, anger-triggers, unsatisfied feelings, sadness etc. The way to be free of these is to embrace them and listen to what they might be telling you about your shadow - the part of you that you have disowned and disconnected from.

Working with and ultimately integrating shadow material through a process that takes you beneath the surface into the actual meaning that your triggers have for you is the way toward ending self-sabotage, not just trying desperately to impose a junta of "good thoughts" on your mind from the outside in

3) Spiritual Practice

Spiritual practice is absolutely distinct from spiritual beliefs or ideas.

Spiritual ideas might give you a map of the territory in preparation for and in analyzing the experience of spiritual practice.

Spiritual beliefs are usually best left alone as they tend to hinder authentic inquiry which is at the heart of spiritual practice.

Spiritual practices actually require that you do the work, that you sit down and meditate. Start a yoga practice, journal, dance your demons and shake your Buddha. That you be present to your emotions, your body, your mental patterns and learn the art of self-observation, introspection and that most harrowing of skills - honest communication.

Spiritual practice requires that you turn to face your shadow. That you get real about your social conditioning, your political situation, the distinction between what you have power over and what has power over you.

Spiritual practice is inspiring, but it's also deeply humbling. It does not tell you that you can have anything, be anything do anything, without limit.

Sorry. That's the kind of fantasy high the Secret promises - and the hangover is a real drag.

But real practice does give you tools and resources to deal with the inevitable disasters, disappointments and struggles that make up every human life.

And this is perhaps what is most problematic about the ideas promoted by movies like The Secret. Most likely the audience is looking for some real tools. Looking for some real practices, techniques and resources to help make sense of life and it's complexities, to help them to grow and feel supported. Yet what these ideas offer is a short lived illusory hope that fades to reveal only one area of deepening - that of denial, fragmentation and self-judgment.

The Ethical Problem

Not too much searching online reveals that the movie is part of an elaborate advertising campaign to get people interested in working with the various "teachers" it features. Just like What the Bleep is a recruitment vehicle for Ramtha's School of Enlightenment, The Secret is an infomercial for its talking heads. On a purely business level, it's brilliant. Too bad this is the last thing it's target audience actually needs.

1) The movie suggests something impossible.

2) Gullible and desperate people will try really hard to apply the law of attraction. They will have some success with it because intention has a certain amount of impact. They will have a lot of failure with it, because it is nonsense. I already know of a few people who are watching the movie obsessively to try and master it's bogus teachings.

3) The ones with money will buy the book, attend the events, and contact the teachers for help on perfecting their skills, which of course is, by definition impossible, so they will have a captive audience.

The dynamic described by the above three points is "The Secret" to these hucksters making a mint!

REVIEWS OF THE BOOK - THE SECRET

THE LIES AS QUOTED FROM THE BOOK:
COMMENTS FROM THE EDITOR ARE IN RED:

DR BOB PROCTOR:

"Why do you think that 1 percent of the population earns around 96 percent of all the money that's being earned? Do you think that's an accident? It's designed that way. They understand something. They understand 'The Secret', and now you are being introduced to 'The Secret'. p. 6

[Editor's note:  Who designed this system?  The writer's God?  Greedy money grabbers whose interest in life is to have it all and keep everyone else on their knees and in poverty?

Also 95% of humanity is not capable of and could not 'think' or 'understand' what this book proposes, even if they could read, unfortunately because there aren't enough teachers in the world, mostly because people won't pay them enough to tolerate the conditions which they would have to face- even in America.

~~~~~
"Whether people have been told they have a slow thyroid, a slow metabolism, or their body size is hereditary, these are all disguises for thinking 'fat thoughts.' If you accept any of those conditions as applicable to you, and you believe it, it must become your experience, and you will continue to attract being overweight.  p 58
"Food cannot cause you to put on weight, unless you think it can.  p 59
"You most likely know of someone who is thin and eats like a horse, and they proudly declare, "I can eat whatever I want and I am always the perfect weight." And so the Genie of he Universe says, "Your wish is my command." p. 59
"Make it your intention to look for , admire, and inwardly praise people with your idea of perfect-weight bodies.  Seek them out as you admire them and feel the feelings of that - you are summoning it to you. If you see people who are overweight, do not observe hem, but immediately switch your mind to the picture of you in your perfect body and feel it. p 60
[Editor's note:  Of course these writers do not allow for disease and body weight to be inherited genetically- according to these writers, all disease and overweight is because people desired it or fought against it and that is what created it.]
~~~~~

DR. JOE VITALE

It takes no time for the Universe to manifest what you want. Any time delay you experience is due to your delay in getting to the place of believing, knowing, and feeling that you already have it. It is you getting yourself on the frequency of what you want. When you are on that frequency, then what you want will appear. p. 63

[Editor's note:  The Universal energy force of creation can do these things, but to blame humanity for not being God and not being millionaires because they cannot attain that level of creation is going a little far.]

~~~~~
"Like Aladdin's Genie, the law of attraction grants our every command.  p 68
[Editor's note:  This is going a little far as well, though the law of attraction is true, it also takes effort and time to manifest what one desires.]
~~~~~

LISA NICHOLS

"When you want to change your circumstances, you must first change your thinking. Every time you look inside your mail expecting to see a bill, guess what - it'll be there.  Each day you go out dreading the bill!  You're never expecting anything great. You're thinking debt, you're expecting debt.  So debt must show up so you won't think you're crazy.  And every day you confirm your thought; Is debt going to be there?  Yes, debt's there. Is debt going to be there?  Yes, debt's there. I debt going to be there? Yes, debt's there. Why?  Because you expected debt to be there.  So it showed up, because the law of attraction is always being obedient to your thoughts. Do yourself a favor - expect a check!  p 72

[Editors note:  If you don't want debt, you don't create it in the first place by buying things you can't afford and your desires are bigger than your pocketbook.]

~~~~~
DAVID SCHIRMER
"When I first understood 'The Secret', every day I would get a bunch of bills in the mail.  It thought, "Who do I turn this around?"  The law of attraction states that what you focus on you will get, so I got a bank statement, I whited out the total, and I put a new total in there.  I put exactly what I wanted to see in the bank.  So I thought, "What if I just visualized checks coming in the mail?"  So I just visualized a bunch of checks coming in the mail.  Within just one months things started to change.  It is amazing ; today I just get checks in the mail.  I get a few bills, but I get more checks than bills.  p 104
[Editor's note:  I wonder if visualized checks actually pays the bills, or does one just claim bankruptcy and start over?]
~~~~

RHONDA BYRNE

"A game I created that helped shift my feelings about my pile of bills was to pretend that the bills were actually checks. I would jump for joy as I opened them and say, "More money for me!  Thank you.  Thanks you."  I took each bill, imagined it was a check, and then I added a zero to it in my mind to make it even more. I got a notepad and wrote at the top of the page, "I have received," and then I would list all the amounts of the bills with an added zero.  Next to each amount I would write "Thank you", and feel the feelings of gratitude for receiving it - to the point where I had tears in my eyes.  Then I would take each bill, which looked very small compared to what I had received, and I would pay it with gratitude!

[Editor's note:  Evidently, this writer did not actually buy and covet the things that the credit cards purchased - she just got these nasty bills in the mail because she didn't want them and that's what she had focused on.

I never opened my bills until I had got myself into the feeling hat they were checks.  If I opened my bills before convincing myself they were checks, my stomach churn when I opened them.  I knew that the emotion of churning in my stomach was powerfully bringing in more bills.  I knew I had to erase that feeling and replace it with joyful feelings, so I could bring more money into my life.  In the face of a pile of bills, that game worked for me, and it changed my life. There are so many games you can create, and you will know what works best for you by the way you feel inside.  When you make-believe, the results come fast! p105

[Editor's note:  I hope this writer used those checks to pay those bills she had created to begin with.]

"You have got to feel good about money to attract more to you. Understandably, when people do not have enough money they do not feel good about money, because they don't have enough. But those negative feelings about money are stopping more money coming to you!  You have got to stop the cycle, and you stop it by starting to feel good about money, and being grateful for what you have.  Start to say and feel, "I have more than enough."  "There is an abundance of money and it's on its way to me" "I am a money magnet." "I love money and money loves me."  "Ii am receiving money every day."  "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."  p 107

"Make it your intention to look at everything you like and say to yourself. "I can afford that!  I can buy that."  You will shift your thinking and begin to feel better about money. p 111

[Editor's note:  This is the kind of thinking that creates debt in the first place.]

"Many people have sacrificed themselves for others, thinking when they sacrifice themselves, they are being a good person.  Wrong!  To sacrifice yourself can only come from thoughts of absolute lack, because it is saying, "There is not enough for everyone, so I will go without."  Those feelings do not feel good and will eventually lead to resentment.  There is abundance for everybody and it is each person's responsibility to summon their own desires.  You cannot summon for another person because you cannot think and feel for another.  Your job in You.  When you make feeling good a priority, that magnificent frequency will radiate and touch everyone close to you.  p 118

[Editor's note:  This writer evidently doesn't know what it means to have children, elderly parents, or care about humanity. She says if 'she' feels good, automatically everyone else she comes in contact with will also feel good.  Everyone else resents those they sacrifice for - naturally - because 'love' for others is evidently not connected to sacrifice in this writer's mind.]

~~~~~~
"Your job is You. Unless you fill yourself up first, you have nothing to give anybody.  p 123
[Editors note:  'You' is not a job.  You, filled with love and compassion has a lifetime to share those things.  Money is never necessary to start giving to others, and millions of people volunteer their time and efforts sharing with those in need.]
RHONDA BYRNE
"You cannot 'catch' anything unless you think you can, and thinking you can is inviting it to you with your thought. You are also inviting illness if you are listening to people talking about their illness and when you are giving all of your thought and focus to illness and when you give all of your thought to something you are asking for it. And you are certainly not helping them. You are adding energy to their illness. If you really want to help that person, change the conversation to good things, if you can, or be on your way. As you walk away, give your powerful thoughts and feelings to seeing that person well and then let it go. p 132
[Editors note: Disease or illness is not caught just because you think about it.  Millions of people get contagious diseases by going to school, shopping, or work and some babies are born with disease or illness they never thought of even in their first breath of life.  Many diseases are in the air and have nothing to do with 'thought'. Walking around 'thinking' you can't catch a disease is foolhardy - and not thinking about disease will not save you either.
Listening to people talk about their illnesses is what nurses, doctors, counselors, ministers, and priests train for years to help people.  They do not do all this training to add energy to the illnesses they treat. If we all walked away from people with illnesses and diseases, it would be a very sad world indeed.  Where is the compassion and love for these people?]
"Disease is held in the body by thought, by observation of the illness, and by the attention given to the illness. If you are feeling a little unwell, don't talk about it - unless you want more of it. If you listen to people talk about their illness, you add energy to their illness.  Instead, change the conversation to good things, and give powerful thoughts to seeing those people in health. p 139
[Editors note:  Disease is not held in the body by thought.  Certain illnesses have a specific lifetime of their own such as flu and colds though some can be shortened by drinking a lot of water, drinking teas and juice, and taking medications appropriate to the illness.  More serious diseases are not held in the body by thought either.  Many diseases can be eased by medications, and the body/mind connection, but to say that thinking about the diseases holds it in the body is erroneous.]
LISA NICHOLS
"People have a tendency to look at the things that they want and say, "Yes, I like that, I want that." However, they look at the things that they don't want and they give them just as much energy, if not more, with the idea that they can stamp it out, they can eliminate it, obliterate it. In our society, we've become content with fight against things. Fighting against cancer, fighting against poverty, fighting against violence. We tend to fight everything we don't want, which actually creates more of a fight.  p 141
[Editors note:  So, this writer is proposing that we as a nation and world community should ignore cancer, poverty, and violence, not to mention other diseases and societal ills and just let them happen, which actually means that everyone with cancer, poverty, or victim of violence will die so there is nothing to worry about or use our God-given intelligence to solve and conquer?
"When I discovered 'The Secret' I made a decision that I would not watch the news or read newspapers anymore, because it did not make me feel good. The news services and the newspapers are not in any way to blame for broadcasting bad news.  As a global community, we are responsible for it. We buy more newspapers when a huge drama is the headline. The news channels' ratings skyrocket when there is a national or international disaster. So the newspapers and news services give us more bad news because, as a society, that's what we are saying we want. The media is effect, and we are cause.  It is just the law of attraction in action!  p 145
[Editor's note:  While I understand fully that watching the news or reading newspapers can be disturbing and it doesn't make us feel good, the news gives us the information we need to make informed decisions on what we need to do going forward in life. We cannot live life in a vacuum.
It is not a problem that people watch TV more or buy more newspapers when there is a huge crisis or drama going on in the world - that's how newspapers and TV stations make their money - which of whom of course has to support them because money is what this writer says life should be all about - and someone has to be on the bottom of the heap to provide the bucks those higher up on the money-ladder others are.  Where else would the money makers advertise their products or services?  The writer wants her cake and eat it too, while not supporting others who would like to do what she professes to do.  Not everyone can write a book about how to make money while quoting other money makers and then not advertise the book.  Guess where the book got its biggest support -  Oprah Winfrey on TELEVISION! I wonder who was watching the TV and buying the book that is making the writer rich!
[Editor's note:  For a man who earns his living saying that he talks to God, it is incredible to think that he teaches that there is no God to give souls a mission to do in life.  The fact is true that God is not an old man in the sky, however, souls do come into physical life with missions to fulfill that was decided while still in the spiritual realm before birth - some small, some large.  Every person has something they are here to do whether they figure it out or not.  There are enough cases of NDE  (Near Death Experiences) to know for certain that the soul judges itself when it leaves the body, a small number even experience going to hell because it is part of their religious training in life. There are still ghosts in cemeteries waiting for the Second Coming of Jesus, and they refuse to go to the light because Jesus hasn't come to fetch them. There is much suffering by ghosts in cemeteries because of erroneous Christian teachings.]
If everyone only does what brings them joy, they would never work or pay a bill etc.  They need to read Dickens "Bleak house" and look at Mr. Harold Skimpole.... who never does anything unless it makes him happy.. and all the ruin he ends up leaving in his wake.  He decides it doesn't make him happy to feed and support the kids his joy brought into the world and he leaves their mother and them behind.  He's always in debt because it doesn't make him happy to pay his bills, and he can't understand why he should do something like that because it makes him unhappy... he's always buying the best things on credit  (of course in that day they didn't have credit reporting services) and when it comes time to pay, he says to the merchants... it makes me happy to pay you, but since I don't work to make any money because that doesn't make me happy, Then I will be happy to imagine that I already paid you.  And you should be happy to imagine that you have already been paid...and since our thoughts are what are real to us, we will both then be happy....
And that is what this book is saying.... If Dickens knew the secret... he sure made fun of it in Bleak House.
Also, if we never did what makes us unhappy, the dog puke would still be on my living room rug!  My beloved dog Pebbles got sick this morning!  YUCK
From Rabbi Michael Berg, co-director of the Kabbalah Centre and the author of The Way – a national bestseller and One Spirit Book Club Selection – comes the book with most powerful teachings of the world’s oldest spiritual wisdom, unlocking the secret source of joy and fulfillment. This is a small book which answers life's biggest question - the quintessential secret to achieving happiness.
Using inspiring tales and excerpts from the writings of one of the world's great Kabbalists, Michael Berg takes you along with him as he describes how he pieced together the secret of life from the encoded wisdom of Kabbalah.
Including practical "dos and don’ts," Michael Berg makes it clear that we have not achieved the joy and fulfillment that we seek and that is our true destiny, because we "have it all wrong." Fulfillment is about giving not getting. Once we understand the "Secret" of sharing and giving, we will be on the path towards not only our own happiness but peace and fulfillment for the world.
A REVIEW OF 'THE SECRET'
My views on "The Secret"
(LAW OF ATTRACTION)
http://www.book-of-thoth.com/ftopicp-108496.html#108496
The idea that the Law Of Attraction is a Universal Law, means that it is true all the time. If that is the case, then we live in a just world, where everyone always gets what they deserve.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_World_Hypothesis
This is one of the main aspects of the Law Of Attraction stuff that I take objection too. The other, is this: "The Secret" tells you that positive thinking will fulfill your desires. But from a Spiritual perspective, can you distinguish between an ego-based desire and an objective that originates in your primordial self? You have to be able to make that distinction. Desiring material goods and trying to use the law of attraction to get them, for your own pleasure because you desire expensive/nice things, or whatever, does not really seem like a spiritual motivation, right? You would still be looking to material things as a source of happiness, trying to use spiritual, energetic concepts to fulfill base desires. It seems like the ultimate form of insanity to me.
In my opinion, this is the type of thinking that the "so-called" Elite love to engage in, because it completely justifies thier actions, and their very existence as the established power. It plays right into their social Darwinism, that they have all they do because they are such wonderfully "Attractive" people who deserve everything they have, including their "divine right" to treat others the way they do. After all, the people who end up maimed, killed and enslaved "attracted their fate".
To say it is a Univeral Law is to say there are no victims, period.
They would love everyone to believe that.
Don't be mistaken in thinking I am telling people not to think positively, rather I am asking people to keep in mind the demonstratable cognitive biases human beings exhibit, and be honest with yourselves.
Understanding the Law of Attraction through the teachings of the Torah
Kabbalah of "The Secret"
by Shifra Hendrie
Over the past several months, a new movie called "The Secret" has been generating growing attention and excitement across America and
beyond. If you haven't heard about it yet, chances are you will. It's a phenomenon.
According to the film's producers, an eclectic group of visionaries, authors, motivational speakers and internet millionaires, The "Secret" is the
so-called "Law of Attraction". This "Law" states that our thoughts and emotions, if we hold them consistently enough, will generate our physical
reality.
Is The Secret real? Yes, as far as it goes. But there's far more to the story than that. The phenomenon of The Secret, as exciting as it may be, is
only a tiny part of the vast cosmic transformation that was predicted by the Torah thousands of years ago.
Geula - Seeing Through Walls
"In the sixth century of the sixth millennium, the gates of supernal wisdom will be opened, as will the springs of earthly wisdom, preparing the
 world to be elevated in the seventh millennium." Zohar
"And the world will be filled with the knowledge of G-d like water covers the ocean bed." (Isaiah 11:9)
According to the Hebrew calendar, this is year 5767 since the creation of the world. We are living in the times of which the Zohar speaks. That's
why so many things are becoming possible that were never possible before.
When G-d created our world He concealed within it a vast reservoir of untapped spiritual and physical potential. This latent potential is now
beginning to assert itself in virtually every area of life. Whether in technology, medicine, science, psychology, or the ever-accelerating search
for spirituality and meaning, new boundaries are being broken every day. This is no accident; it is a sign of the times.
In these amazing times there are fewer limits than ever before on what human beings can experience and achieve. G-d is giving us a glimpse
of the infinity that lies beyond the walls - a glimpse that points to the underlying oneness and purpose beneath the surface of our diverse and
conflicted world.
As we get closer and closer to the times when, as the prophets say, "The world will be filled with the knowledge of G-d as water covers the ocean
bed", it becomes easier and easier to sense those vast, uncharted depths. And the more we relate to that underlying reality, the more we can see
 it poking through.
The Torah tells us that "ein od milvado" - there is in actuality nothing here but G-d.
Great tzadikim, holy people profoundly in touch with this deeper level of truth, have often been able to create miracles at will. Undeceived by
the apparent reality of our separateness, by the seemingly immutable limitations of the natural order, they have the power to "see through the
walls" and access higher planes of existence, creating or shifting physical circumstances from their spiritual source.
However, for ordinary people, trapped within physical bodies in a physical world, it has always been a great challenge to experience this deeper
truth as a tangible reality. But that was then. This is now.
In these times, poised, as we are, at the edge of history, moments before the final geula (Redemption), it is possible for even ordinary people to
begin to see through the walls. That means that you and I have far more power than ever before to access the realm of the miraculous in every
aspect of our lives.
G-d's relationship with us has always been in a sense like a game of hide and seek. He conceals Himself in the illusion of separateness and
the fragmented, confusing details of life and waits for us to find Him. But in these times, more than ever before, He lets us choose the rules
of the game.
When we refuse to allow the limitations of our emotional tendencies and physical circumstances to get in the way of our relationship with G-d,
of our trust, our confidence, our creativity, our joy, G-d responds in kind. Life becomes miraculous, unbounded by those limitations. We become
partners in Creation.
That is our destiny.
You and G-d - Two Partners in Creation
"Know that everything above" - all that transpires in the spiritual realm - is "from you," [dependent on your conduct]." The Maggid of Mezeritch
The physical world, although it experiences itself as separate and sourceless, is actually only the end of the long "chain of creation". Like the tip
of an iceberg, which is the visible part of a vast mountain of ice concealed below the water, our physical reality is the crudest, most visible
manifestation of its underlying spiritual source. Far from being separate, whatever happens in the physical world is simply an expression of
what is happening on the spiritual plane. Like every relationship, this works in two directions, each mirroring the other. Just as the spiritual
reality inevitably expresses itself in the physical world, our thoughts and actions here below have a very powerful effect on the spiritual realms.
And by the same token, once there is a change in the spiritual realms, there will automatically be a corresponding change in the physical world
as well.
That means that by changing our thoughts, emotions and actions, we change our world.
The Infinite Power of Joy
"When man below is of a "radiant countenance" and filled with joy and gladness, he then draws down upon himself the same qualities from
 Above." Zohar (II, p. 184b)
"Joy breaks through barriers." The Rebbe
"Joy breaks through all the boundaries of golus (exile). "The Rebbe
Kabbalah and Chassidus explain that the greatest channel for accessing this miraculous power is joy. True, each of us has our "nature", the
ingrained beliefs and tendencies that limit and define our choices in life. However, joy - simcha - breaks through those ordinary limitations
within you, allowing you to express yourself in ways your everyday nature does not allow. In the same way, in the macrocosm, joy breaks
through the limitations of the entire natural order, allowing a more transcendent, unlimited light to flow into the world. This light affects not
 just you, but the world around you as well. Since everything you feel is mirrored Above, your joy and happiness not only expands you beyond
your own boundaries, it causes G-d to go beyond His own "nature" and pour additional blessings into the world.
Trust, a Channel for Divine Blessings
"Tracht gut, vet zein gut! (think good and it will be good)" the Tzemach Tzedek, third Rebbe of Chabad
"Blessed is he who puts his trust in G-d, for G-d will be his security." (Jeremiah 17:7)
The Rebbe explains that there is a fundamental difference between emunah, faith, and bitachon, trust. Faith is the unshakeable belief that
everything comes from G-d, and that everything G-d does is for the good. Trust, however, is more than just belief. Trust is the certainty that the
good that G-d bestows will come out in a way that feels good to you.
Faith will profoundly affect your outlook and behavior, but it won't necessarily change your heart. Trust is different. Trust alters your feelings.
Trust makes you happy.
When you truly trust in G-d, you feel like a very small child in the care of loving parents. The child knows that his parents will take good care of
him. He assumes, without even thinking about it, that he will always have more than enough of what he needs in every area of life. A trusting
child has no cause whatsoever for worry or anxiety. He feels happy, peaceful and secure.
By the time most of us have passed early childhood we've learned all too much about failure, disappointment and fear. That innocent, heartfelt
trust is gone. No matter how much faith we have in G-d's goodness or love, most of us no longer have the childlike certainty that everything will
turn out just fine.
Paradoxically, that's what makes trust, bitachon, so very powerful. It means letting go of all of your doubts, worries and fears, even when they
seem to make so very much sense according to the natural order of things. To trust means to simply connect to G-d's infinite love and goodness,
knowing absolutely He will not let you down, that He will make sure that you're safe and well provided for NO MATTER WHAT. From the
perspective of this kind of trust, it doesn't matter whether the solution to your troubles seems impossible to achieve. It doesn't even matter
whether you deserve to have things change or not. Obviously, as a responsible human being you should do your part as best you can - but
knowing that success does not depend on you.
Total trust, if it is real, can't help but make you happy. But there's more to it than that.
Your authentic, unconditional trust comes from a very deep place in your soul, and is very precious to G-d. When you trust in this way, you
have gone beyond the illusion of separateness. You have raised yourself, in a sense, higher than the limits of the physical world and connected
yourself directly to your Creator. This one action is so profoundly powerful that it will bring blessings, even miraculous blessings, into your life -
 even if you may not fully deserve them.
The Rest of the Story
 "All delicacies will be like dust" (Maimonides, Laws of
