JAKARTA, Indonesia -- A powerful earthquake rocked an island in northeastern Indonesia Tuesday, killing one person and damaging dozens of houses, officials said.

The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4, was centered about 230 miles east of Bitung, a coastal town on North Sulawesi, said Handi Sulistion, an official at the Jakarta's office of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency.

"One person was killed in northern Morotai (island), while 20 houses were totally destroyed and 28 others damaged," he said.

Morotai lies about 1,550 miles northeast of Jakarta, the capital.

The quake also jolted several other towns including Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi.

Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago nation, is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire."

Severe earthquake rocks Indonesia, measuring 7 on Richter scale

An earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale hit Indonesia early this morning. According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the quake occurred in the sea, near Halmahera, about 240 kilometres northeast of Ternate. This was followed by another quake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale in the Sulu island group in southern Philippines.

The epicentre of the quake was in the sea, 73 kilometres southwest of the provincial capital, Jolo. There are no immediate reports of casualties or damages.

Earlier, northeast Japan was rocked by a powerful earthquake which measured 7 on the Richter scale. The quake disrupted traffic, knocked out power, ignited fires and caused landslides. Reports say that 54 people were hurt, with 6 serious injuries and minor damages. The epicentre of the quake was 71 kilometres below the sae, about 20 kilometres off the coast off north eastern Miyagi.

PHOENIX FIVE EARTH CHANGES BULLETIN

ITEMS: Seismic Activity Remains High And Reveals Major Plate Movements

The three West Pacific Rim of Fire quakes are now all listed at 7.0, which of course is about one seventh of the annual number of quakes at 7.0 plus, making them definitely non random.

All three were on the same plate margin, on an arc with a maximum longitude bend of about 20 degrees, widely separated accross some 40 degrees of latittude. They all occured within about 14 hours of each other. Quite a chunk of real estate but all essentially part of the same gigantic tectonic event. RARELY can such a pattern be seen SO clearly. If fact, I am not aware of any other so clear. I have seen many pattersn come and go, but most of them can be assualted on statistical grounds. This is pretty far above statistical fuzz in my opinion.

This activity, in fact the activity of the past few months, has been terrible on the Seismic Windows paradigm. The stats are blowing all over the place on that paradigm but I am still loyal to it because it used to work and I am willing to bet it will again.

That makes this period of time especially interesting. What is going on to over ride the standard seismic windows?

In "The Prophecies" (book three of the Return of the Phoenix) I specifically tuned into and predicted that one of the major precursors for the beginning of the avalanche of the crust would be seismic activity that increased and became less "random" in its occurrance, i.e. that patterns of activity could be seen to "roll" down the latitudes or accross the longitudes. I argued that such patterns would indicate that the crust was beginning to shift much more dramatically then in the past by loading up the edges of the plates with much larger stress, causing the plate margins to flex with much larger releases of seismic energy which could be experienced as distinct sequences of major quakes along a plate margin.

We have just seen a proto version of what I was talking about. We have been looking for this kind of signal for the past some odd three years now.

Maybe young Justin Whitten was right in his intuitive prediction about this May, as well as several other psychics, maybe this is a precursor signal of the avalanche. Some of them believe that a terrible change is coming this year but I continue to "believe" that the initiating action will be drawn out and that we are at least two years away from serious geophysical earth changes. But, we shall see what we shall see (he said whistling down the road in the dark).

The key to watch for now is an escalation of non random activity - we are looking for the curve. This may be an identifiable moment for defining a beginning of the curve, the moment when it can be said that the Phoenix is actually on the runway and has begun to move. BUT THIS IS NOT AT ALL CERTAIN AT THIS POINT, WE NEED TO FIND THE CURVE OF ESCALATION.

Elsewhere around the globe this past few days, quakes in the 4.5 to 5.9 range have struck at key plate junction points, Africa, Eurasia, Carib, Alaska - much of the activity supports the idea that this is related to major "whole plate" motion which is occurring planet wide, not just random adjustments along standard highly active creep zones.

Four hours ago, Algeria just got hit with a 5.9 aftershock in the same area which was hit. This is sure to have caused more death and destruction in that area.
