TOPIC:  THE LIONESS RETURNS TO RULE

3-19-14 - NAP DREAM -  I was sitting on a chair and it seemed I was drawing on a window with a  ball point pen with a fine tip.

I was drawing with great difficulty because of the surface and the ink had difficulty coming out of the pen and staying on the surface where I wanted it to especially where the tail was.

First I drew the shape of a lioness facing left and because that was so difficult, I decided to do it again facing right.

That was also difficult to draw and get the tail positioned correctly.

When I was done, I stepped back and saw  what I was really drawing on, and it was the carcass of a bear.  That's why the ink didn't want to stick to the surface.

NOTE:  When I woke up, Joe was nearby and I asked him what the symbolism of a female lion was, and while he was talking, it came to me that the female lion was Hillary Clinton and the bear was Russia.

As soon as I was done typing up the dream, I went on line to send the dream to several friends and Joe and this was the headline news on AOL.

10 Surprising Facts About Vladimir Putin's Extraordinary Past

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stood -- often bare-chested -- at the helm of Russian politics since 1999, rotating between the presidency and the prime minister's office.

But before his fast rise to power, Putin spent most of his life far out of the limelight.

With Putin at the center of several global crises, from Syria to Ukraine, The WorldPost takes a look back at the leader's surprising past.

1. Vladimir Putin grew up in a communal apartment shared by three families in St. Petersburg (then known as Leningrad), and he says he remembers hunting rats in the stairwell.

2. Putin's grandfather worked as a chef at Lenin’s country house and later cooked for Stalin several times.

3. He earned a black belt in judo when he was 18 and still practices the martial art, which he describes as a life philosophy.

4. Putin loves spy novels, once remarking “what amazed me most of all was how one man’s effort could achieve what whole armies could not.”

5. He joined the KGB straight out of university and spent the 1980s helping the Soviet secret police recruit people to spy on the West.

6. Putin loves his pet dogs and even brings them along to political talks, some suggest to scare fellow world leaders.

7. He is fluent in German, but not very confident in English.

8. Putin and his wife announced their divorce in 2013 during the interval of a ballet.

9. Putin has two daughters but their lives are kept a total secret. They attended college under assumed names and their professions and countries of residence are not known.

10. He is an Orthodox Christian and has expressed his faith in controversial terms, for example by placing same-sex marriage on a par with belief in Satan.

HERE ARE SOME PREVIOUS REFERENCES I'VE PERSONALLY HAD ABOUT THE LIONESS

10-24-91 - VISION
I saw a female lion trying to jump over a fence. It only got over half way.

A loud voice said, "The Jewish Nation are getting nowhere. The Lion of Judah can only get half way over the fence."

NOTE: Ref: Genesis 49:8 thru 10
8: Judah, your brothers will praise you; your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father's sons will bow down to you.
9: You are a lion's cub, O Judah; you return from the prey, my son . Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness - who dares to rouse him,
10: The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs, and the obedience of the nations is his.

Sekhmet was judged for her crimes and buried alive, most likely by my the side of Ptah's Mummy inside the first Pyramid...just to make sure that he would keep an eye on her. Some fifteen years later, I, as Nefertoum, discovered her new incarnation which was to be known as Bast, but this time her devouring lion Spirit behaved just like a docile little pussy cat. Bast is represented as a woman with a Cat head holding a sistrum surmounted by a Lioness head in her right hand. So, Sekhmet and Bast were emanations of the same immortal soul... just as stated in the Tibetan Book of the Dead....and you will find a few prayers that speak of this Immortal Terrible Goddess..Chapter CLXIV... "Salute! Sekhmet, Ra, Bast, Regent of the Gods, winged To who the bandages "Ans" give the magical power, You the Goddess crowned of the both diadems of the North and South...." "As the chief seat of learning, Memphis majored in the worship of Ptah, who according to the Egyptians, was "The Mind of the Universe", who created all the Gods and Men by thinking them into existence." Memphis was known as the great Necropolis....and is most famous by its single Cemetery "the Fayoum" which is 2 miles wide and 60 miles long and said to contain from 40 to 50 millions corpses of Men, Woman...Pharaohs alike....buried close together along with their favorite animals, according to the strong Egyptian belief of the immortality of the soul (of all living creatures)....guaranteed by the Immortal Sun-God. Also, there are two Pyramids in Memphis...Abu Roash at the North end of the Cemetery ...and Lahun at the South-East of the Fayum....which clearly indicate that Bast who wore the Diadem of the North and South, was also buried along with Nefertoum at the other end of the Fayoum! Unfortunately, Bast was assimilated with Artemis, which is a big mistake. Also, when we read those books today, which were written by mortals, they believe that the relationships between the Gods and Goddesses were physical... but, they were actually only purely spiritual. Besides, Sekhmet, was also known in India as Durga, and in many other places, in many lives. For instance, she was very famous in Babylonia, as Ishtar, you know the famous "Prostitute of Babylon"... that is mentioned even in Revelation 17 and 18. The Mother of all Prostitutes and of the Abominations of all the Earth.!!! Two features are especially common and well marked: the first is the bloody and savage nature of the Great Mother Goddess, the second is her power as a sorceress and a witch." Author, E. Neumann, confuses the Terrible Mother again with Great mother Goddess. What a pity to confuse the Profane with the Holy. He says, " Thus the devourer of the dead is the Terrible Mother of Death" ....and eventually, "She is "repressed" and crouches beside the judgement scales like a horror. As Erman says, she was "not a subject that popular fancy cared to pursue."

The Goddess Bast

The Goddess Bast

Bast was worshipped from the most ancient times, when her early form was lioness-headed. It wasn't until the first millennium BC that she was worshipped in the form of a lissom domestic cat or else as a cat-headed woman. No life-size (or greater) representations of Bast, in any form, have survived intact, although a great many smaller bronzes and statues have been recovered and can now be seen in museums around the world. But this does not necessarily mean that larger statues didn't exist. In his 'Histories', the Greek historian Herodotus tells us that a statue of the Goddess existed in the main temple shrine at Bubastis, but although he tells us that this statue was carried out among the people as part of Bast's festival he gives us no detailed description of her. In visualizations on the past of Egypt, many people who work with Bast have picked up imagery of huge cat-headed statues, but much as we'd like to believe these are psychic 'photographs' of history, we have to bear in mind that these visions might only be subjective.

No anecdotal stories have survived about Bast's mythological life. As with so many of the Egyptian Gods, we know of her characteristics but not her exploits. We have to consider that, unlike other ancient cultures, the Ancient Egyptians may not have placed great importance upon such legends; the stories might not just be lost but never have existed in the first place. In some regions, Bast was regarded as the daughter of the creator God, Atum, in others as the daughter of the sun God, Ra. We know that she had children - Nefertum and Mahes - and she might have shared a husband with Sekhmet in the creator God of Memphis, Ptah.

That Bast was a very important Goddess there is no doubt, as the remains of her city, Bubastis, attest. Huge blocks of pink granite lie tumbled upon the ground, and an extensive cat cemetery can still be explored. We can only hope that the German team who want to reconstruct the ruins will be able to do so, when we shall all be able to appreciate and enjoy an approximation of what Bubastis was like in its hey-day. Herodotus visited the city during the 5th century BC. He equated Bast (or Bubastis as he refers to her) with the Greek Goddess Artemis, and leaves us this description:

'None of the Egyptian cities , I think, was raised so much as Bubastis, where there is a Temple of Bubastis (the Greek Artemis) which is well worth describing. Other temples may be larger, or have cost more to build, but none is a greater pleasure to look at. The site of the building is almost an island, for two canals have been led from the Nile and sweep around it, one on each side, as far as the entrance, where they stop short without meeting; each canal is a hundred feet wide and shaded with trees. The gateway is sixty feet high and is decorated with remarkable carved figures some nine feet in height. The temple stands in the centre of the city, and, since the level of the buildings everywhere else has been raised, but the temple itself allowed to remain in its original position, the result is that one can look down and get a fine view of it from all round. It is surrounded by a low wall with carved figures, and within the enclosure stands a grove of very tall trees about the actual shrine, which is large and contains the statue of the Goddess. The whole enclosure is a furlong square. The entrance to it is approached by a stone-paved road about four hundred feet wide and about two thousand feet long, running eastward through the market-place and joining the Temple of Bubastis to theTemple of Hermes. The road is lined on both sides with immense trees - so tall that they seem to touch the sky.'

Bast was associated with childbirth, perhaps because of the way a mother cat cares for her kittens - and the fact that she might have continual litters of them. During the 2nd Century AD Plutarch wrote, somewhat mysteriously, that the Egyptian Cat gives birth first to one kitten, then two, until the number seven is reached. He points out that this makes a total of twenty-eight, the same as the days of the lunar month.

Nowadays, Bast has assumed a mother Goddess aspect. While there is no doubt she has a side whose teeth and claws are bared, she is now generally regarded as benevolent. Her rituals involve music, feasting and dancing, when she can be petitioned to grant boons. Bast can be invoked to help with problems concerning domestic life, work situations and success, as well as love and good health, for the petitioner, their friends and families, or their cats. Any visit to the Temple of Bast, through visualization, is a time of serenity, contemplation and pleasure.

The Goddess Sekhmet

Sekhmet Painting

Sekhmet's name means 'powerful', and like Bast, she also has several variations of it, such as Sekhet or Sakhmet. She too was seen as the daughter of the sun God, Ra, and myth tells us that she was placed in the uraeus on his brow from where she would spit flames at his enemies. Her main temple was at Memphis in the south. She was the consort of the God, Ptah, and the mother of Nefertum.

Unlike Bast, Sekhmet does have a specific myth related to her, as follows:

Ra feared that humanity was plotting against him, having come to the conclusion that he was too old and frail to govern them any more. The other Gods encouraged Ra to punish the ungrateful humans by unleashing the power, or fire, of his avenging Eye upon them. Hathor, Sekhmet and Bast were all known as the 'Eyes Of Ra'. The God sent Hathor into Egypt to exact retribution from the people, and here she transformed into a lioness and becameSekhmet.

The Goddess slew everyone she came across, and the land became red with their blood. By nightfall, she left the land to sleep, but would return the following day to finish her bloody work. Ra realized that Sekhmet had got a taste for blood and had become unstoppable. It was all going too far; a full-scale massacre would take place. He needed to stop the slaughter, and devised a plan, whereby he instructed the high priest at Heliopolis to obtain red ochre from Elephantine and mix it with seven thousand jars of beer to create a red liquid that looked like blood, but had rather different properties. The priest spread the mixture over the land. In the morning, Sekhmet returned to Egypt to finish off what remained of the people there, and lapped up what she assumed was their blood on the ground. The beer made her drunk, which effectively ended her rampage of bloodlust.

However, the lioness Goddess was not just seen as a war-monger and vengeful eye of the sun God. Because she was believed to bring plagues, the priests performed a kind of sympathetic magic to ward off and heal infections and illness. In this role, Sekhmet was known as the 'Lady of Life', and many of her priests were also physicians. In times of plague, they might perform huge, large-scale rituals. During the reign of Amenhotep III, hundreds of larger than life statues of Sekhmet were created, thirty of which are now in the British Museum. It seems conceivable that such a massive display of respect and veneration to the Goddess might have been to avert and drive out a particularly virulent plague.

Sekhmet also had a male form, when she known as Sekhmet Min. There is a representation of her in this aspect in the Temple of Khonsu at Karnak, Luxor, which shows the king standing before her to invoke her mighty strength in Min form.

Sekhmet seems more complex than Bast, but probably only because more material survives about her. To the pharaohs, she was seen as a symbol of their prowess as warriors and their ability to succeed in battle. On one limestone fragment, she is shown apparently breathing her divine life force into the mouth of the pharaoh Sneferu of the Fourth Dynasty.

Statue of SekhmetAs with the Goddess Isis, Sekhmet seems to have been reinvented in the twentieth century. Although she is still regarded as a powerful force, to be approached with respect and caution, we can perceive a 'watering down' of her aspects. In Ancient Egypt she was dangerous and ferocious, the bringer of plagues and retribution, the fire of the sun God's eye. This was no benign figure, who could be adored and worshipped as a gentle mother. Nowadays, many women (in particular) view Sekhmet as a source of strength, independence and assertiveness, and commune with her frequency when these attributes need to be augmented or instilled. In many ways, we could say that Sekhmet has become the symbol of the modern woman. She is still approached as a healer, bringer of justice and as a guardian or protector, but the emphasis has shifted. If any system is to survive, it has to move with the times and adjust itself to suit the sensibilities of those who adhere to it. It seems a natural progression that Sekhmet has transformed from what was almost a force of chaos into an icon of immanent female power.

This is an extract from the chapter The Goddess Sekhmet

.

The image of the great goddess Isis depicted a bird/woman with wings outstretched who flew in the realms of spirit. The relationship between her and her falcon-headed son Horus symbolized the archetype of the mother and child union.

Although strength is now associated with masculine energy, the powerful lioness-headed goddess Sekmet had a woman’s body, not a man’s. She represented the strength and power of the African sun at high noon. Her archetype lives in the major arcana tarot card “Strength.” On Sekmet’s crown was a solar disc and a cobra. Uachet the cobra and her vulture twin-sister Nekabet were desert warriors who protected the Sekmet and other deities.

A composite creature of human, bird, lion, and bull - the sphinx - represented the four alchemical elements: the human represented the astrological sign Aquarius, air; the bird represented Scorpio, water; the lion represented Leo, fire; and the bull represented Taurus, earth. Centuries later these same four animals and their powers were borrowed by Christianity and given to four of the twelve apostles.

Elsewhere in the ancient world it was not unusual for the goddess to be depicted in animal and human form. The ancient Hebraic goddess Lilith had the wings and claws of a bird, and owls and lions as her animal familiars. Recreated as a she-devil and demon, Lilith was stripped of her power by the monotheistic patriarchal religion of Yahweh.

The goddess has been interpreted in three aspects: the virgin, the mother, and the crone. The virgin is the youthful girl and young woman, the new moon of potential. The mother is the full moon, pregnant with life. The crone is the wise old woman, the waning moon, who understands death’s mystery. The virgin archetypes are ever popular, for they are pleasing to men. The mother archetype also pleases and serves men, for mothers take care of boys and men and give them children. In Christianity, where the trinity is cast in masculine terms, the goddess survives as Mary, a combination of virgin and mother. But the crone, the most powerful aspect of the feminine deity, has become invisible and unwanted ever since the goddess and her animals were declared profane.

Moses came down from Mt. Sinai with a new code of laws written on tablets, only to destroy the tablets by throwing them at a statue of Hathor the golden calf. “Thou shall have no other gods before me...” especially not an animal goddess.

A healing can occur as humans acknowledge animals in their role as healers, protectors, allies, and teachers. By reclaiming the ancient wisdom, the animals again may become sacred. As the goddess is respected and honored, her animals too become respected, for the two are inseparable.

The Goddess Mafdet

This Goddess prevails over snakes and scorpions. She is probably one of the earliest feline deities and was either a cheetah, a lynx or a leopard. She was described as having plaited hair, which was said to represent the linked bodies of the scorpions she killed. Mafdet'sname has been said to mean 'runner', which does suggest a link with the cheetah, the fastest of felines.

The Goddess Mut

A widely-worshipped mother Goddess, Mut is yet another deity who can have a fully human or lioness-headed form. She was the consort of Amun-Ra and the mother of the moon god, Khonsu. Apart from the cat and the lion, her other sacred animal was the vulture.

The Goddess Neith

A mother of the Gods, Neith was most often seen as a fully human woman, sometimes holding a bow and arrows. However, she did have a lioness-headed aspect. Neith is unusual in that she has a androgynous aspect, in that she was supposed to have self-generated and to have both male and female elements in her nature.

The Goddess Pakhet

A lioness-headed goddess, Pakhet is virtually unknown in comparison to Bast and Sekhmet, but she was a major goddess in her own right. AsBast's region was Lower Egypt and Sekhmet's Upper Egypt, Pakhet was worshipped in Middle Egypt, and had a temple which was cut out of the solid rock near the modern day village of Beni Hasan in the eastern desert. Like Sekhmet, she was seen as something of a ferocious Goddess, for her name means'the tearer' or 'she who snatches'.

The Godess TefnutThe Goddess Tefnut

Tefnut, along with her twin brother Shu, were the first Gods to be created by Atum or Ra. Tefnut personified moisture, and Shupersonified the sky. They had two children, Geb, the earth, and Nut, the sky. In this way, air and moisture, earth and sky were created in sequence. Once these elements came together the physical world came into being. Tefnut is often depicted in human form but also has a lioness-headed aspect. Like Sekhmet, Bast and Hathor, she is known as an Eye of Ra.

Tefnut - "Sky-spittle (i.e., rain)" One of the two first creations of the Self-Created One, Tem, Tefnut is twin to Shu and embodies the concept of airborne moisture, clouds, dew, or rain (Shu embodies the concept of air, wind or atmosphere). Tefnut is sometimes equated with Nit and Nut, and is depicted in New Kingdom jewelry and art as a female sphinx trampling the enemies of the Two Lands, equated with the Great Royal Wife of the king. Tefnut is generally depicted as a woman with a lion's head, surmounted by the sun-disk (resembling Sekhmet; however, Tefnut's ears are routinely pointed, whereas Sekhmet's are rounded), seated on a throne. She is sometimes shown as a full lion along with Her brother/twin Shu.

11-23-99 - BAST - The Dream -

After working on this page for a couple of hours, I lay down to meditate on another subject of interest . . . however, I immediately saw a brilliant sun and found myself on the first floor of a large school in the hallway.  There was a tall, blonde woman with me and we began talking about the existence of BAST.  Immediately then, three men came in the door at the far end of the hallway and I told the blonde woman that they couldn't be BAST because they were male.
The three men went into the bathroom. Immediately then, at the far end of the hallway, three women came in the door. The three women were  not the same size and I didn't see them clearly because they were so far away, but I knew that was BAST!
I then saw that I was wearing gold shoes with high heels with silver tap  lifts on the heels and I began to tap dance in the hallway.  I told the  blonde woman. . . I just love these shoes.  :-)

Osiris, the human incarnation of primitive Nilotic deities, absorbed the attributes of the moon spirit and the male earth spirit. Isis, on the other hand, apparently absorbed those of Nut, the sky-and-water goddess, and of Neith, the earth goddess, who symbolized growth.

As moon worship was of greater antiquity in Egypt than sun worship, and was associated with agricultural rites, the Theban cult must have made popular appeal, and helped to rally the mass of the people to throw off the yoke of the Hyksos Ra and Sutekh worshippers. The political significance of Apepa's order to slay the hippopotami is therefore apparent.

When the influence of the southern conquerors extended to Hermopolis, Ah was merged with Thoth, who was originally a lunar deity. In fact, as we have shown in our Introduction, he was another form of Khonsu. With Mut, "the mother", who is indistinguishable from Apet, Khonsu and Thoth formed a Theban triad. In Nubia, where archaic Mediterranean beliefs appear to have been persistent, Thoth was the son of Tefnut, the lioness-headed goddess, who was given arbitrary association with Shu, the atmosphere god, by the theorists of Heliopolis. Mut was also depicted at Thebes with the head of a lioness.

As we have already suggested, it is possible that Amon was originally the son of Mut-Apet. He may have developed as a symbolized attribute of Ah. Fragments of old hymns make reference to him as a lunar deity, and as a "traverser" of space like Khonsu-Thoth. Indeed, even in his hawk-headed form, he retains his early association with the moon, for he wears the solar disk with the lunar crescent. 1

Amon, like the sons of all the Great Mother deities, represented in his animal forms the "male principle" and the "fighting principle". He became "the husband of his mother" when the Great Father and Great Mother conceptions were fused. This process is illustrated in the triad formed by Ptah, the father, Mut, the mother, and Thoth, the son. Ptah's wife Sekhet, with the head of a lioness, is indistinguishable from Mut) Tefnut, and Bast.

12-5-99 - (Joe and I watched the cartoon movie "The Lion King" and I got really tired towards the end, so I went to lay down and take a nap. )

VISION: As I lay there with my eyes closed, I was seeing the negative image of a male and female lion against a black background. I was hearing the music from the movie 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight?' and the lion images were alternately changing color in a rolling color change from light brown to light purple and back, over and over. The color was rolling upward.

DREAM - I was living in a large apartment building. I received a phone call from a woman who lived upstairs. She said, "I know you are really busy and I'm putting you out, but I need to ask you a question." Instead of sitting there and asking her what she wanted, I said, " Let me come up there." She said "Okay!" While I was going up there, I was rehearsing in my mind what I was going to tell her face to face. I needed to ask her to pay me for my time, even though she couldn't afford what my time was really worth, and I would be giving up more time than I could afford, I could no longer answer questions for nothing. I knew she might offer to give me some goodies 'in kind' like cookies or cake or something that was of value, but I couldn't do that, since if I took things ' in kind' my family at home who was depending on me earning a living probably wouldn't appreciate what I brought home since they didn't eat cookies or cake especially the kind that other people made. I needed to ask her for cash payment, but I didn't want to make her feel bad that I was singling her out for a donation for a specific question. What I needed to ask is whether she would be willing to be my sponsor for a small fee and for that she could ask me one question a month, whatever she needed.

I got to her apartment and knocked on the door. She was taller than I, and I could see she was standing right on the other side of the door. She was wearing a light blue caftan type of outfit. I was dressed in my light green and white bathrobe with nothing under it. I was careful to hold it closed so nobody would see that I was naked. I knocked gently three separate times before she answered the door.

When she opened the door, I could see she had two other women in her apartment, one sitting on each couch which had blue flowered covers on them. Then I knew the question she was going to ask wasn't just for herself, but for them. My request for a sponsoring fee was therefore even more valid. I was going to ask for a donation of $5 per month.

As I turned to close the door, a female lion-type looking dog was walking behind me and I had to hold her outside when I entered the apartment.

I can't remember what occurred inside the apartment, but as I woke up, I recall that she and I were both female lions and we were rolling over and over to see which one of us would end up on top.

I feel blessed to get this one.  Dream is from 1996.

Hi Dee,

Been reading through your dreams and my instincts are kicking in that I have tuned into something dear to my heart,(soul) 2 years ago I dreamed that I was calmly following a female gold lioness. She was BEAUTIFUL. So physical but yet ethereal and Powerful. She showed me her paw. On a nail was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen It was composed of all jewels and some I had never seen and the band was jeweled also but the whole thing was moving, liquefied, shimmering. As I would reach for it she would stand up,open her mouth and take my head in it. I could feel one tooth penetrate my crown center and the bottom tooth enter my throat center. It did hurt, lasting for about 10 seconds. She would then calmly get down and start walking away. I would watch her and the moment I decided to take a step forward (because I simply had to have that ring at all costs),she would slowly walk back to me and stand up. I would lower my head and she would bite again. I would endure it and this kept happening maybe 4-5 times.

The following day I went into a store and saw a poster that shocked me. It was of the male lion of the tribe of Judah with a chain with 2 keys hanging from his mouth. He was wearing a crown and also his right front leg was extended forward with a jeweled bracelet on it !!! Below was written,""Fear not: I am the first and the last: I am He that lives, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore. Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Revelations: 1:17:18"

But this was not the end. I went to Philadelphia to visit my Bishop for a weekend. I told her nothing of this. After she said mass I was spinning and slightly dizzy with a burning crown chakra. I then told her of the "ring" but not the poster. Minutes later she informed me , "no dear, it's not a ring, it's your crown!!!"I then recalled that at the beginning of the mass after invoking the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Auriel and Raphael that she invoked Auriel (and  another).

I looked it up and Auriel = lion angel and also the antique name for Jerusalem,, and also means altar hearth.

More Light.

Rev. Maureen Heffernan

NOTE TO THE READERS: We received an interpretation of the agove dream from another reader. We found it to be credible so are presenting it here:

{ Would you please forward a copy of this interpretation of the dream of Rev. Maureen Heffernan to her and others who you think would find it of interest.--Thomas

The golden lioness represents the lost royal bloodline of the "first-born" that can be traced back to 'the seed of Abraham. When the lioness extended her paw with the jeweled ring, she was demonstrating that she represents the Queen Mother, or, the royal bride searching for her beloved bridegroom; the king. When the lioness took your head into her mouth, with one tooth penetrating your crown center and the lower tooth entering your throat, it demonstrated that the lioness was unveiling this mystery to you. The poster of the male lion of the Tribe Of Judah represents the lost bridegroom of this bloodline. The two keys on a chain hanging from the lioness's mouth represents the bloodlines of the twins, Pharez and Zerah. That goes back to the "divine rights" of the "first-born" of Esau whose line was breached by the line of the "second-born" of Jacob. Jacob's name means supplanted as he disguised himself in the image of his twin brother and betrayed him as he deceived his father Isaac to gain the rights of the "first-born". This betrayal caused a curse on Jacob as his first-born was deemed incapable and unworthy of perpetuating the royal bloodline. Jacob blessed his first-born son Reuben, but refused to grant him his rights of inheritence as he was described as "unstable as water..." Of Simon and Levi; "weapons of violence are their swords... I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel. But of the tribe of Judah he said:

This scepter shall not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler's staff from between his
feet, until he comes to whom it belongs.

But, Tamar, his daughter-in-law, deceived Judah and was able to gain possession of his signet, his bracelet (hence; on paw), and his staff, when she seduced him and conceived Pharez and Zerah. With the strange birth of Zerah the line of the 'first-born'
was shown to be lost when the midwife tied a scarlet thread, that designated the first-born, around the wrist of Zerah, only to have it withdrawn that allowed Pharez to be born first; --the line of David and Jesus. Hence; the heavenly image on earth of the lion and the lamb laying together represents the twin royal lines of Jesus and Thomas.

In Barbara Walker's book, "The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets", she states without explanation that the disciple Thomas is actually the ancient Sumerian god Tammuz, which is Hebrew for Thomas. Tammuz was called the god of "green corn" and was worshiped by the tribe of Judah who had adopted and incorporated him into their own religion during the
Babylonian captivity and became the central position as the Christos or sacred king annually sacrificed in the Temple in Jerusalem. (Ez. 8:14)

It has been determined that the 'Song of Songs' was taken from dirges and lamentations found in the Tammuz songs that were written after the son/god died and descended to the underworld and never returned. They were dedicated to Ishtar (from where Easter derived) who bewailed her beloved son/god as she searched for him in the barren fields and sheepholds. The anticipated return of the 'bridegroom' and reunion with the Mother Goddess is the mystery hidden behind the "Wedding at Cana" of the Gnostic Fourth Gospel of John, of which, Jesus refused to allow to take place between Mary and himself..

The fact that Jesus' twin brother Thomas represents the return of Tammuz, fulfills the messianic prophecy of both Christians and Jews, alike.

Genesis 49:9 --

Judah is a lion's whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as a lioness;
who dares rouse him up?

Deuteronomy 33:22 --

And of Dan he said, "Dan is a lion's whelp, that leaps forth from Bashan."

Isaiah 4:4

. . . when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion
and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment
and by a spirit of burning.

The lion eating the rabbit may symbolize how the rational left-brain "male" consciousness overpowers the intuitive dreaming right-brain "feminine." On our "Two Suns" page, I compared this to the Sun overpowering Venus each morning as we awake from sleep.

Some ideas about lions came back around 1990, when I saw a music video of Whitney Houston singing, "I'm Your Baby Tonight." I found it today online (see link below). She drives a motorcycle at the end, with her man riding behind. This is similar to the lioness hunting and providing the food (for thought).

A coincidence soon happened, when I read a short story by Ernest Hemingway, in which he reported a dream of a lioness, his fiancee, who served him very tasty cooked food.

Regards,

Joe

The concept of the Great Goddess as The Triple Goddess, young woman (Maiden), birth-giving matron (Mother), and an old woman (Crone), dates from the earliest ages of mankind. (These attributes were also ascribed to the three phases of the moon; the Maiden, which corresponds to the new moon; the Mother, which corresponds to the full moon; and the Crone, which is the waning moon. These aspects have been used for centuries by many civilizations.) This concept was embraced by many different mythologies from many different parts of the world. The Vikings had the Norns (Urdu/Verdandi/Skuld), the Romans had the Fortunae (Concordia/Salus/Pax), the druids had Diana Triformis, the Greeks had the Moirae, Graeae, Horae, etc.

Maiden
The Maiden aspect represents enchantment, inception, expansion, the female principle, the promise of new beginnings, youth, excitement, and a carefree erotic aura. She is innocent in some ways, but also a seductress who recognizes the power of her sexuality. Maiden goddesses include: Anatha, Brigid, Nimue, Kore, Persephone, Gerd, Caer, Blodeuwedd. Her traditional color is white.
Mother
The Mother is ripeness, fertility, fulfillment, stability, and power. Mother is ripe, full-breasted, at the peak of her womanly powers. She is the one who tenderly rocks the baby, but she is also the lioness who hunts to feed her offspring and will fight to the death to protect them. Mother goddesses include: Aa, Ambika, Anahita, Asherah, Ceres, Coatlicue, Danu, Demeter, Hathor, Ishtar, Isis, Lakshmi, Luonnotar, Nintu, Sheng-Mu. Her traditional color is red.
Crone
The Crone is wisdom, retrenchment, repose, and compassion. She is old age, experience, accumulated wisdom and death. She is the gateway to Death, and the guide to Rebirth. Crone goddesses include: Annis, Baba Yaga, Cailleach, Greine, Hel, Maman Brigitte, Oya, Sedna, Skuld, Takotsi, Toci. Her color is black.
Goddesses who embody the triple aspect within themselves include: Brigid (Ireland/Celtic), Carmenta or Carmentis (Roman), Hekate or Hecate (Greek/Anatolia), Helice (Greek), Kali (India), the Morrigan (Ireland/Celtic).
India:
The Primal Goddess, Maha Devi, in India was divided into three goddesses personified as Creator, Preserver and Destroyer (Saraswati, Laksmi and Kali). The three aspects of the Primal Goddess were represented by three kinds of priestesses: Yogini (nubile virgins), Matri (mothers), and Dakini (women elders).
Ireland:
The Morrigan; Celtic Goddess of Destruction/Creation. The Irish triple goddess: Anu (Ana, Nemain), the fertility maiden; Badb, the mother, producer of life; and Macha, the death-crone, symbolized as a carrion-eating raven.

THE FOLLOWING IS FROM http://www.greatdreams.com/joel.htm

Joel 1

1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel son of Pethuel.

An Invasion of Locusts

2 Hear this, you elders; listen, all who live in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your forefathers?
3 Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.
4 What the locust swarm has left the great locusts have eaten; what the great locusts have left the young locusts have eaten; what the young locusts have left other locusts [1] have eaten.
5 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine; wail because of the new wine, for it has been snatched from your lips.
6 A nation has invaded my land, powerful and without number;  it has the teeth of a lion, the fangs of a lioness.
7 It has laid waste my vines and ruined my fig trees. It has stripped off their bark and thrown it away, leaving their branches white.
8 Mourn like a virgin [2] in sackcloth grieving for the husband [3] of her youth.
9 Grain offerings and drink offerings are cut off from the house of the Lord . The priests are in mourning, those who minister before the Lord .
10 The fields are ruined, the ground is dried up ; the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the oil fails.
11 Despair, you farmers, wail, you vine growers; grieve for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field is destroyed.
12 The vine is dried up and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree- all the trees of the field-are dried up. Surely the joy of mankind is withered away.

A Call to Repentance

13 Put on sackcloth, O priests, and mourn; wail, you who minister before the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister before my God; for the grain offerings and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God.
14 Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord .
15 Alas for that day! For the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty.
16 Has not the food been cut off before our very eyes- joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 The seeds are shriveled beneath the clods. The storehouses are in ruins, the granaries have been broken down, for the grain has dried up.
18 How the cattle moan! The herds mill about because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are suffering.
19 To you, O Lord , I call, for fire has devoured the open pastures and flames have burned up all the trees of the field.
20 Even the wild animals pant for you; the streams of water have dried up and fire has devoured the open pastures.

Joel 2

An Army of Locusts

1 Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand-
2 a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness.
Like dawn spreading across the mountains a large and mighty army comes, such as never was of old nor ever will be in ages to come.
3 Before them fire devours, behind them a flame blazes. Before them the land is like the garden of Eden, behind them, a desert waste- nothing escapes them.
4 They have the appearance of horses; they gallop along like cavalry.
5 With a noise like that of chariots they leap over the mountaintops, like a crackling fire consuming stubble, like a mighty army drawn up for battle.
6 At the sight of them, nations are in anguish; every face turns pale.
7 They charge like warriors; they scale walls like soldiers. They all march in line, not swerving from their course.
8 They do not jostle each other; each marches straight ahead. They plunge through defenses without breaking ranks.
9 They rush upon the city; they run along the wall. They climb into the houses; like thieves they enter through the windows.
10 Before them the earth shakes, the sky trembles, the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine.
11 The Lord thunders at the head of his army; his forces are beyond number, and mighty are those who obey his command. The day of the Lord is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it?

Rend Your Heart

12 "Even now," declares the Lord , "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning."
13 Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.
14 Who knows? He may turn and have pity and leave behind a blessing- grain offerings and drink offerings for the Lord your God.
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly.
16 Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders, gather the children, those nursing at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber.
17 Let the priests, who minister before the Lord , weep between the temple porch and the altar. Let them say, "Spare your people, O Lord . Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?' "

The Lord 's Answer

18 Then the Lord will be jealous for his land and take pity on his people.
19 The Lord will reply [1] to them: "I am sending you grain, new wine and oil, enough to satisfy you fully; never again will I make you an object of scorn to the nations.
20 "I will drive the northern army far from you, pushing it into a parched and barren land, with its front columns going into the eastern sea and those in the rear into the western sea. And its stench will go up; its smell will rise." Surely he has done great things.
21 Be not afraid, O land; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things.
22 Be not afraid, O wild animals, for the open pastures are becoming green. The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their riches.
23 Be glad, O people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.
24 The threshing floors will be filled with grain; the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.
25 "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten- the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm - my great army that I sent among you.
26 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed.
27 Then you will know that I am in Israel, that I am the Lord your God, and that there is no other; never again will my people be shamed.

The Day of the Lord

28 "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
30 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord .
32 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the survivors whom the Lord calls.

Joel 3

The Nations Judged

1 "In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.
3 They cast lots for my people and traded boys for prostitutes; they sold girls for wine that they might drink.
4 "Now what have you against me, O Tyre and Sidon and all you regions of Philistia? Are you repaying me for something I have done? If you are paying me back, I will swiftly and speedily return on your own heads what you have done.
5 For you took my silver and my gold and carried off my finest treasures to your temples.
6 You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, that you might send them far from their homeland.
7 "See, I am going to rouse them out of the places to which you sold them, and I will return on your own heads what you have done.
8 I will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, a nation far away." The Lord has spoken.
9 Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! Rouse the warriors! Let all the fighting men draw near and attack.
10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, "I am strong!"
11 Come quickly, all you nations from every side, and assemble there.

Bring down your warriors, O Lord !

12 "Let the nations be roused; let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations on every side.
13 Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, trample the grapes, for the winepress is full and the vats overflow- so great is their wickedness!"
14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and moon will be darkened, and the stars no longer shine.
16 The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem; the earth and the sky will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the people of Israel.

Blessings for God's People

17 "Then you will know that I, the Lord your God, dwell in Zion, my holy hill. Jerusalem will be holy; never again will foreigners invade her.
18 "In that day the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk; all the ravines of Judah will run with water. A fountain will flow out of the Lord 's house and will water the valley of acacias.
19 But Egypt will be desolate, Edom a desert waste, because of violence done to the people of Judah, in whose land they shed innocent blood. 20 Judah will be inhabited forever and Jerusalem through all generations.
21 Their bloodguilt, which I have not pardoned, I will pardon."

The Lord dwells in Zion!

On 6-22-03 - as I went to sleep, I had a vision of the name HATHORS.  Each letter stood alone, but accompanied by another name attached to each letter in parenthesis.  Thus it appeared that each letter of the name HATHOR represented a different individual.

Research on the Hathors proves this to be true. This was a group of goddesses who are shown in reliefs on temples in Egypt.  Hathor was worshipped as various cow goddesses in different parts of Egypt, but was early identified as Hathor of Denderah. She was represented as either a cow with a solar disc, carrying an ankh and sceptre, or a woman with cow horns between which was a solar disc. Sometimes she is depicted as a woman with a head-dress of plumes and a vulture. In her role as "lady of the Holy Land" or the Underworld, she is seen as a cow emerging from the funeral mountain or standing on a boat surrounded by very high papyrus plants. Less common representations include that of a woman with the head of a lioness and also of a sphinx wearing a vulture head-dress. As the cow of the Underworld and the sphinx she wears the Menat emblem which represents pleasure and joy. Her Egyptian name Het-Hert translates to the House Above, referring to part of the sky or heaven. Another title, Het-Heru, means House of Horus and refers to the path across the sky taken by the ancient sun god Horus. Sometimes she even appeared as a hippopotamus, although her epithet was always "the golden." As a goddess of fertility, Hathor was at childbirths, and regarded as the tutelary deity of beauty, love, and marriage. Occasionally she was identified with Isis, the wife of Osiris. But Hathors were a group, not just one individual.

The Hathors are said to come from another Universe through the star system Sirius, which to me means they were really a group of extraterrestrials. I have no problem accepting that possibility.  The Hathors were teachers of sound healing. They say:  "Our own nature is energetic and interdimensional. We originally came from another universe by way of Sirius which is a portal to your Universe, and from Sirius we eventually proceeded to your solar system and the etheric realms of Venus.

"In the past we have specifically worked with and through the Hathor fertility goddess of ancient Egypt. We also made contact with the Tibetan lamas in the formative period of Tibetan Buddhism. Thus, some of their unique techniques and practices about the use of sound come from our own lineage and our teachings with them. Although we have interacted with some of Earth's early cultures, we are an intergalactic civilization with outposts that span parts of your known Universe and beyond.

"We are what you might term an ascended civilization - a group of beings existing at a specific vibratory field, even as you have an energy signature. It is simply that we vibrate at a faster rate than you. Nonetheless, we are all part of the mystery, part of the love that holds and binds all the universe together.

"We have grown as you have grown, ascending to the One Source of all that is. We have grown in joy and through sorrow, as have you. We are, in terms of the vastness, a little higher on the spiral of awareness and consciousness than you are; therefore, we can offer you what we have learned as friends, mentors and fellow travelers on the path that leads back to remembrance of All That Is.

    From: http://www.springwolf.com/wolves/nature/lupus.htm

     Lupus In The Sky

In astronomy, an ancient constellation of the southern sky, located between the constellations Centaurus and Scorpius. Lupus has no extremely bright stars but is densely populated with stars of second and third magnitude. It is a constellation rich in double stars and multiple stars. A few open clusters and other deep-sky objects can be seen with binoculars within its boundaries; many more are visible with a more powerful telescope. The name Lupus is Latin for "wolf," but the wolf appellation apparently did not become common until the Renaissance. The ancient Greeks and Romans figured the grouping as a wild animal of no specific type. Representations among the Mediterranean civilizations that recognized this grouping included a lioness, a leopard, a male horse, and a howling dog. Lupus is often linked to the Centaur rearing above it, though the symbolism may be forced. As examples, the Centaur is sometimes described as reaching out to grasp Lupus and carry it to the Altar (Ara), a nearby constellation, or as impaling Lupus on a pole. For a long time, however, the stars were not clearly separated from those in Centaurus. Eratosthenes, a Greek astronomer of the 3rd century BC, described these stars as a wine skin from which the Centaur was about to drink. It fell to Hipparchus of Bithnya, a Greek astronomer of the 2nd century BC, to separate the stars from Centaurus and give the constellation a name, Therion (Wild Animal). The great astronomer Ptolemy of Alexandria cataloged the constellation as Therion in the 2nd century AD, but alternative names continued to appear on sky maps for centuries.

Lupus forms part of the disklike zone of young, bright stars called Gould's Belt that slices through the Milky Way galaxy at an angle of about 18 degrees. Sprinkled around the edge of Gould's Belt are star nurseries, all of about the same age. The Dutch astronomer Adriaan Blaauw has proposed that all of these star nurseries originated at the same time, about 30 million years ago, when compression of dust and gas squeezed a large molecular cloud and caused a burst of star formation. The very active Orion star nursery was one result; the association of young, hot stars called the Upper Centaurus-Lupus Stellar Association was another. Although stars in constellations generally move in unrelated (to each other) fashion, most of the stars in this association are moving together at the same speed, 16 miles (25 kilometers) per second, in the direction of Beta Columbae.

The Upper Centaurus--Lupus Association lies in the part of Gould's Belt that extends above the plane of the Milky Way, so that a portion of the Milky Way runs through Lupus. This location brings within the boundaries of the constellation some attractive star fields and their associated nebulae (both bright and dark), galaxies, and clusters. The seventh-magnitude globular cluster NGC 5986 can be seen with binoculars toward the northern end of the constellation. This cluster is not extremely tight, and some individual stars can be resolved with an amateur-sized telescope. A few degrees north of NGC 5986 is a dark band in the sky known as the dark nebula B 228. A dark nebula, or absorption nebula, is a cloud of gas and dust that blocks light coming from behind. As a result of absorption of their emitted light, the few stars visible in the vicinity of B 228 appear unusually red. A few open clusters, including the sixth-magnitude NGC 5822, lie near the southern border of the constellation. On the western border, about 5 degrees northwest of Alpha Lupi, is the Wolf-Rayet ring-type planetary nebula IC 4406, visible with a small telescope. The central stars of the Wolf-Rayet nebulae are thought to be the hottest stars in the universe.

The figured part of the constellation, the stars that make up the wolf shape, contains several bright single, double, and multiple stars--none of which have a name. Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, and Zeta Lupi form a rough oblong representing the body and front legs of the animal. Alpha Lupi, which might be thought of as the eye, is a magnitude 2.3 blue giant about 620 light-years distant from Earth. About 6 degrees northeast, marking the end of the ruff, is Beta Lupi, a magnitude 2.7 blue-white giant about 680 light-years distant. Gamma Lupi, where the tail and hind legs emerge from the animal's rump, is a magnitude 2.8 blue-white binary star whose close companion cannot be separated with a small telescope. Northeast, along the more northerly of the hind legs, is a wide multiple system, the Phi series, consisting of a magnitude 3.5 yellow-orange giant star with two faint companions. The other hind leg is marked by the double star Eta Lupi, whose components are a magnitude 3.4 blue-white primary and a fainter, whitish yellow companion. Back in the oblong representing the animal's body are the multiple star systems Pi and Mu Lupi, and the double star Kappa Lupi, whose magnitude 3.9 and 5.7 blue-white components can be separated with a small telescope. In the Southern Hemisphere Lupus is best viewed between March and September. It reaches its highest point in the sky at 10:00 PM on June 1, when, for an observer in the mid-southern latitudes, it appears about two thirds of the way up the sky. Lupus lies northeast of the very bright star Alpha Centauri and follows Centaurus across the sky. About half of Lupus is visible from the mid-northern latitudes in late spring and early summer. For a northern observer, Lupus lies southwest of the red supergiant Antares and precedes Scorpius across the sky.

3-18-14 - DREAM - I was at my sister Bernice's house.  I saw her close up and she had cropped dark brown hair like a man.

On her living room floor she had a brown oval rug that was loose and soft like a blanket with small orange and white stripes on it here and there.

She had several children playing happily on the rug.

The rug had to be loose because it had to be shifted every quarter.

The food she served also changed every quarter and this quarter she was serving shrimp.

About 243 B.C. Ptolemy Euergetes set out on a military expedition against the Assyrians, who had murdered his sister. Berenice, who was proud if her beautiful long golden hair, vowed to sacrifice her "amber tresses" if he returned victorious. When he did, Berenice, cut off her hair, and placed it in the temple of Aphrodite, goddess of beauty. That night the hair disappeared, enraging the king and the queen. To save the situation, and the lives of the temple priests, Conon the court astronomer, announced that Berenice’s gift had received such favor that Aphrodite had taken the hair and placed it in the sky for all to admire.

    THE PROPHECY OF LORD MONMOUTH

    TOPIC:  GEOFFREY OF MONMOUTH

9-28-12 -  DREAM -  I had a long conversation with a Princess of England - (can't remember her name or the conversation.  She was very close with her brother Geoffrey of Monmouth.

I then had a long conversation with Geoffrey, and I apparently worked for the two of them, and promised to help them with some documents, which I was to copy.

While I was doing this, early in the morning, an uncle of Geoffrey came into the room and stole the documents from me.

I was not able to get the documents back.

This is a past-life event for me.  I have long known I was a Monk in England, along with some other Monk's who all have reincarnated at the same time, and I know who they are as well, though I have never met them in person.

    ***************

9-28-12 - MEDITATION:  I was just resting my eyes after lunch, and relaxing, and suddenly I saw a list of things on a screen, and a voice said, "What exactly do we know about Geoffrey of Monmouth?

There were about 10 or 12 things on the list.

    1.  Geoffrey was a monk
    2.  Geoffrey was a Benedictine Monk
    3.  Geoffrey had a sister who was a Princess
    4.  Therefore Geoffrey had to be a Prince
    5.  Therefore Geoffrey's Father was a King (King Arthur)
    6.  Geoffrey's Father's name was Arthur
    7.  Geoffrey lived at the castle in Oxford
    8.  Geoffrey was a writer
    9.  Geoffrey knew Merlin (Myrrdin) Vertigern
    10.  Geoffrey had a well known uncle who had possession of his writings
    11. Geoffrey could read and write in at least three languages, English, Welsh, and Latin
    12.  Could Geoffrey's uncle actually be Merlin?

    BOOK VII.

    CHAPTER III.

    THE PROPHECY OF MERLIN.

As Vortegirn, king of the Britons, was sitting upon the bank of the drained pond, the two dragons, one of which was white, the other red, came forth, and approaching one another, began a terrible fight, and cast forth fire with their breath. But the white dragon had the advantage, and made the other fly to the end of the lake. And he, for grief at his flight, renewed the assault upon his pursuer, and forced him to retire. After this battle of the dragons, the king commanded Ambrose Merlin to tell him what it portended. Upon which he, bursting into tears, delivered what his prophetical spirit suggested to him, as follows:-

“Woe to the red dragon, for his banishment hasteneth on. His lurking holes shall be seized by the white dragon, which signifies the Saxons whom you invited over; but the red denotes the British nation, which shall be oppressed by the white. Therefore shall its mountains be levelled as the valleys, and the rivers of the valleys shall run with blood. The exercise of religion shall be destroyed, and churches be laid open to ruin. At last the oppressed shall prevail, and oppose the cruelty of foreigners. For a boar of Cornwall shall give his assistance, and trample their necks under his feet. The islands of the ocean shall be subject to his power, and he shall possess the forests of Gaul. The house of Romulus shall dread his courage, and his end shall be doubtful. He shall he celebrated in the mouths of the people and his exploits shall be food to those that relate them. Six of his posterity shall sway the sceptre, but after them shall arise a German worm. He shall be advanced by a sea-wolf, whom the woods of Africa shall accompany. Religion shall be again abolished, and there shall be a translation of the metropolitan sees. The dignity of London shall adorn Dorobernia, and the seventh pastor of York shall be resorted to in the kingdom of Armorica. Menevia shall put on the pall of the City of Legions, and a preacher of Ireland shall be dumb on account of an infant growing in the womb. It shall rain a shower of blood, and a raging famine shall afflict mankind. When these things happen, the red one shall be grieved; but when his fatigue is over, shall grow strong. Then shall misfortunes hasten upon the white one, and the buildings of his gardens shall be pulled down. Seven that sway the sceptre shall be killed, one of whom shall become a saint. The wombs of mothers shall ripped up, and infants he abortive. There shall be a most grievous punishment of men, that the natives may be restored. He that shall do these things shall put on the brazen man, and upon a brazen horse shall for a long time guard the gates of London. After this shall the red dragon return to his proper manners, and turn his rage upon himself. Therefore shall the revenge of the Thunderer show itself, for every field shall disappoint the husbandmen. Mortality shall snatch away the people, and make a desolation over all countries. The remainder shall quit their native soil, and make foreign plantations. A blessed king shall prepare a fleet, and shall be reckoned the twelfth in the court among the saints. There shall he a miserable desolation of the kingdom, and the floors of the harvests shall return to the fruitful forests. The white dragon shall rise again, and invite over a daughter of Germany. Our gardens shall be again replenished with foreign seed, and the red one shall pine away at the end of the pond. After that shall the German worm be crowned, and the brazen prince buried. He has his bounds assigned him, which he shall not be able to pass. For a hundred and fifty years he shall continue in trouble and subjection, but shall bear sway three hundred. Then shall the North wind rise against him, and shall snatch away the flowers which the west wind produced. There shall be gilding in the temples, nor shall the edge of the sword cease. The German dragon shall hardly get to his holes, because the revenge of his treason shall overtake him. At last he shall flourish for a little time, but the decimation of Neustria shall hurt him. For a people in wood and in iron coats shall come, and revenge upon him his wickedness. They shall restore the ancient inhabitants to their dwellings and there shall be an open destruction of foreigners. The seed of the white dragon shall be swept out of our gardens, and the remainder of his generation shall be decimated. They shall bear the yoke of slavery, and wound their mother with spades and ploughs. After this shall succeed two dragons, whereof one shall be killed with the sting of envy, but the other shall return under the shadow of a name. Then shall succeed a lion of justice, at whose roar the Gallican towers and the island dragons shall tremble. In those days gold shall be squeezed from the lily and the nettle, and silver shall flow from the hoofs of bellowing cattle. The frizled shall put on various fleeces, and the outward habit denote the inward parts. The feet of barkers shall be cut off; wild beasts shall enjoy peace: mankind shall be grieved at their punishment: the form of commerce shall be divided: the half shall be round. The ravenousness of kites shall be destroyed, and the teeth of wolves blunted. The lion’s whelps shall be transformed into sea-fishes; and an eagle shall build her nest upon Mount Aravius. Venedotia shall grow red with the blood of mothers, and the house of Corineus kill six brethren. The island shall be wet with night-tears; so that all shall he provoked to all things. Woe to thee, Neustria, because the lion's brain shall be poured upon thee; and he shall be banished with shattered limbs from his native soil. Posterity shall endeavour to fly above the highest places; but the favour of new comers shall be exalted. Piety shall hurt the possessor of things got by impiety, till he shall have put on his Father: therefore, being armed with the teeth of a boar, he shall ascend above the tops of mountains, and the shadow of him that wears a helmet. Albania shall be enraged, and assembling her neighbours, shall be employed in shedding blood. There shall he put into her jaws a bridle that shall be made on the coast of Armorica. The eagle of the broken covenant shall gild it over, and rejoice in her third nest. The roaring whelps shall watch, and leaving the woods, shall hunt within the walls of cities. They shall make no small slaughter of those that oppose them, and shall cut off the tongues of bulls. They shall load the necks of roaring lions with chains, and restore the times of their ancestors. Then from the first to the fourth, from the fourth to the third, from the third to the second, the thumb shall roll in oil. The sixth shall overturn the walls of Ireland, and change the woods into a plain. He shall reduce several parts to one, and be crowned with the head of a lion. His beginning shall lay open to wandering affection, but his end shall carry him up to the blessed, who are above. For he shall restore the seats of saints in their countries, and settle pastors in convenient places. Two cities he shall invest with two palls, and shall bestow virgin-presents upon virgins. He shall merit by this the favour of the Thunderer, and shall he placed among the saints. From him shall proceed a lynx penetrating all things, who shall be bent upon the ruin of his own nation; for through him Neustria shall lose both islands, and be deprived of its ancient dignity. Then shall the natives return back to the island; for there shall arise a dissension among foreigners. Also a hoary old man, sitting upon a snow-white horse, shall turn the course of the river Periron, and shall measure out a mill upon it with a white rod. Cadwallader shall call upon Conan, and take Albania into alliance. Then shall there be a slaughter of foreigners; then shall the rivers run with blood. Then shall break forth the fountains of Armorica, and they shall be crowned with the diadem of Brutus. Cambria shall he filled with joy; and the oaks of Cornwall shall flourish. The island shall be called by the name of Brutus; and the name given it by foreigners shall be abolished. From Conan shall proceed a warlike boar, that shall exercise the sharpness of his tusks within the Gallic woods. For he shall cut down all the larger oaks, and shall be a defence to the smaller. The Arabians and Africans shall dread him; for he shall pursue his furious course to the farther part of Spain. There shall succeed the goat of the Venereal Castle, having golden horns and a silver beard, who shall breathe such a cloud out of his nostrils, as shall darken the whole surface of the island. There shall be peace in his time; and corn shall abound by reason of the fruitfulness of the soil. Women shall become serpents in their gait, and all their motions stall be full of pride. The camp of Venus shall he restored; nor shall the arrows of Cupi cease to wound. The fountain of a river shall be turned into blood; and two kings shall fight a duel at Stafford for a lioness. Luxury shall overspread the whole ground; and fornication not cease to debauch mankind. All these things shall three ages see; till the buried kings shall be exposed to public view in the city of London. Famine shall again return; mortality shall return; and the inhabitants shall grieve for the destruction of their cities. Then shall come the board of commerce, who shall recall the scattered flocks to the pasture they had lost. His breast shall he food to the hungry, and his tongue drink to the thirsty. Out of his mouth shall flow rivers, that shall water the parched jaws of men. After this shall be produced a tree upon the Tower of London, which having no more than three branches, shall overshadow the surface of the whole island with the breadth of its leaves. Its adversary, the North wind, shall come upon it, and with its noxious blast shall snatch away the third branch; but the two remaining ones shall possess its place, till they shall destroy one another by the multitude of their leaves: and then shall it obtain the place of those two, and shall give sustenance to birds of foreign nations. It shall he esteemed hurtful to native fowls; for they shall not be able to fly freely for fear of its shadow. There shall succeed the ass of wickedness, swift against the goldsmiths; but slow against the ravenousness of wolves. In those days the oaks of the forests shall burn, and acorns grow upon the branches of teil trees. The Severn sea shall discharge itself through seven mouths, and the river Uske burn seven months. Fishes shall die with the heat thereof; and of them shall be engendered serpents. The baths of Badon shall grow cold and their salubrious waters engender death. London shall mourn for the death of twenty thousand; and the river Thames shall be turned into blood. The monks in their cowls shall be forced to marry, and their cry shall be heard upon the mountains of the Alps.

Nahum 1:1 The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. 2 God is jealous, and the LORD revenges; the LORD revenges and is a possessor of wrath. The LORD takes vengeance against His foes, and He keeps wrath against His enemies. 3 The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power. And He does not by any means acquit the guilty. The LORD has His way in the tempest and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet. 4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers; Bashan and Carmel wither, and the flower of Lebanon withers. 5 The mountains quake from Him, and the hills melt, and the earth is lifted up from before Him; even the world and all who dwell in it. 6 Who can stand before His fury? And who can stand up in the heat of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken down because of Him. 7 The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him. 8 But with an overflowing flood He will make an utter end of its place, and darkness shall pursue His enemies. 9 What are you plotting against the LORD? He will make an utter end; affliction shall not rise up the second time. 10 For as thorns are woven together, and as their drunkards are drunken, they shall be devoured like stubble fully dry. 11 One who devises evil against the LORD has come forth from you, one counseling worthlessness. 12 So says the LORD: Though secure and likewise many, yet they shall be cut down, and he shall pass away. And though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more. 13 For now I will break his yoke off you, and will burst your bonds apart. 14 And the LORD has commanded concerning you, Not one of your name shall be sown any more; I will cut off the graven image and the molten image out of the house of your gods. I will make your grave; for you are despised. 15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of Him who brings good news, making it heard, Peace! O Judah, keep your appointed feasts, fulfill your vows; for the wicked shall pass through you no more; he is completely cut off.

Nahum 2: 1 The scattering one is coming up against your face. Guard the rampart. Watch the way, make your loins strong, firm up your power mightily. 2 For the LORD has turned away the glory of Jacob, as the glory of Israel. For the plunderers have plundered them, and have destroyed their vine branches. 3 The shield of his mighty ones has become red; the mighty men are in scarlet; the chariots flame like iron torches in the day of his preparation. And the cypresses are made to quiver. 4 The chariots race madly in the streets; they shall run to and fro in the open squares. Their appearance is like torches; they dart about like lightnings. 5 He shall remember his nobles; they shall stumble in their walking; they shall make haste to its wall, and the covering shall be prepared. 6 The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be melted. 7 And she who stood firm is uncovered and caused to go away. And her slave women are moaning like the sound of doves, beating their breast. 8 But Nineveh is like a pool of water from her days; yet they are fleeing. Halt! Halt! they cry, but none looks back. 9 Seize the silver; seize the gold; for there is no end to the treasures; riches from all precious vessels. 10 She is empty and void and waste; and the heart melts, and the knees knock, and trembling is on all the loins; and all their faces collect heat. 11 Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, and the lion's cub, and no one made them afraid? 12 The lion tears in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangles for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with torn prey. 13 Behold, I am against you, says the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall be heard no more.

Nahum 3: 1 Woe to the bloody city! It is a lie, and full of plunder; the prey is not withdrawn. 2 The sound of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of a wheel, and of a galloping horse, and of a bounding chariot. 3 The horseman lifts up both the bright sword and the lightning of the spear. And many are slain, and there are a mass of dead bodies, and no end of corpses; they stumble on their dead bodies, 4 because of the many harlotries of the well-favored harlot, the mistress of sorceries who sells nations by her harlotries, and families by her sorceries. 5 Behold, I am against you, says the LORD of hosts; and I will uncover your skirts upon your face. And I will cause the nations to see your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame. 6 And I will cast filth upon you, and will dishonor you, and will set you as a gazing-stock. 7 And it shall be that all those who look upon you shall flee from you, and say, Nineveh is laid waste; who will weep for her? From where shall I seek comforters for you? 8 Are you better than No Amon, that dwelt among the Nile branches, waters all around her, whose rampart was the sea, the waters her wall? 9 Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, yea, without end. Put and Lubim were among your helpers. 10 Yet she went into exile; she went into captivity, and her young children also were dashed to pieces at the head of all the streets; and they cast lots for her honorable men, and all her great men were bound in chains. 11 You also shall be drunken; you shall be hidden, you also shall seek strength because of the enemy. 12 All your strongholds shall be like fig trees with the first fruits; if they are shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater. 13 Behold, your people in your midst are women. The gates of your land shall surely be opened to your enemies; the fire shall devour your bars. 14 Draw waters for the siege; fortify your strongholds; go into the clay, and tread the mortar; make the brick mold strong. 15 There fire shall devour you; the sword shall cut you off, it shall eat you up like the locust. Make yourself as many as the larvae, multiply yourself like the locusts. 16 You have multiplied your merchants above the stars of heaven; the locust larvae shall strip off and fly away. 17 Your rulers are like the locusts, and your officials are a swarm of locusts that camp in the hedges in the cold day; the sun rises, and they flee, and the place where they are is not known. 18 Your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria. Your nobles are at rest; your people are scattered upon the mountains, and no one is gathering. 19 There is no healing of your fracture; your wound is grievous; all who hear the news of you shall clap the hands over you; for upon whom has your wickedness not passed continually?
